Just started the game as a Thief and just finished the Theater. I am looking through the town and will join the Thieves guild. As I understadn I can join another guild (secondary) as well... (I only play Solo for now).
I was looking at going the way of the trickster as it gives me summoned Henchman and some magic ability, but I am not locked in to that path... I do want Magic (offence)
Two questions
1. What tier path should I take as a Thief and why
2. what would be the a good sec guild and why
Your help would be greatly appreciated as I dont want to get started down a path and find I HATE it or it doesnt work well
Personally, I think the rogue tree is the worst in the game. So I'd suggest you only take budoka there, and then go mage->battlemage->warlock so that you gain spells and heavy armor.

Sir Edmund:"Should you obey the lord who asks you to put a village of innocents to the torch? Is that chivalrous? Is it noble?" Me:"It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."

Budoka shows bing a Red Dragon and the web site says that the Red Dragon is NOT a guild. so could I follow the Budoka chain up To Lord Ninja and ALSO follow the mage->battlemage->warlock??
You are allowed two first tier classes, two second tier classes, and one third tier class. You can get the second and third tier classes either from the two guilds you join or from two other 'groups', the women's league (if you are playing a female character) and the eastern houses. The important thing is to avoid 'accidently' getting a second tier class you don't want so you are blocked from others.
The suggestion above is that you get your third tier class (and a second tier class) from the mages guild, and a second tier class from the eastern houses.
Thus, follow the quests to join the thieves guild, but do not get any of their second tier classes.
