ranger/rogue best weapons and advice

Post by Luther »

I'm playing through NWN with a Ranger/rogue character with none of the expansions installed. I'm already finding that this combination of classes is pretty weak but I'm already committed so I'm forging ahead. Without serious Grimgnaw help I can get killed pretty easily. (is it me or are the other henchmen pretty much useless compared to Grimgnaw?) I've chosen longswords as a weapon of choice, switching over to great axe, long bow and using a small weapon or club for an off-hand when not using a shield.

I'm in ch 3. now and still have not found a really cool long sword or other weapon for that matter. I have no components to upgrade with the dwarf smith (where the heck can I find a diamond in ch 3??) and good weapons are hardly ever found. What's the advice from seasoned players for this situation? What's a good weapon to maximize my ranger/rogue abilities? Looking for all sorts of advice here I guess.

Well, for ranger, I used use longsword and offhand with a dagger or shortsword... but, I use longbow for picking off guys farther away.
If you're looking for specific weapons, then I would just suggest making a custom shop module and then starting at a chapter, or whatever. Just a suggestion.

If you have Grimgnaw then you may want to focus on ranged weapons, but considering you're going to be relying on random weapon drops you can't really say this or that weapon is worth getting (unless you can buy it).

To add to Oscuro's suggestion, you could download a character creator module from NWVault maybe, those kind of mods have mechants with a wide variety of items. But you'll have to import the charcater back at the beginning of a chapter. IIRC the 'Epic Character Maker' has the vital plot items for each of the chapters in the game.
