Who designed this game

Post by Volt »

The frustration level with this game has peaked. I'm really trying to play the game straight up. The arcade aspect of this game SUX! You guys who have worked out this game have my respect.

I would have deleted this one a long time ago without the walkthrough. No rhyme or reason as to figuring out those asinine shadow islands, I just spent 45 min trying to kill wraiths, to quit, read the walkthrough and find out they can't be killed (no indicator they are diffent from the rest I've been killing all game long.....give pink hats or something!!!!). Another 15 min of trying to jump in the damn center of the room to get yet another stone of some sort. No success as of yet jumping and previously I had to use the editor to do the damn water jumping platforms. Prior to the SR area I would have given this game a strong B as a dungeon crawler, now a weak C and going down. this game gets about 2 more sessions and then a delete from the hard drive. If they wanted to create a platform side crawling arcade game then that's what they should have created. An RPG this isn't!

Well, if you can hold out, there are several decent dungeons after that one, and hardly any more 'arcade' puzzles.

If you like, I can describe the method I used to get through this one.

Thanks, all tips accepted. I tried the manner described in the walkthrough but no luck. Nice to know this may be the last, way to much like the "rpgs" of old. I thought all that had died with the advent of BG and RPGs after.

Okay, it's really a finger coordination exercise. I assume you use the w key to move forward. You need to put your middle finger on w, use your thumb for the space bar, to jump, and your little finger for the shift key. Right hand is for the mouse.

You have to get the attitude that this is one you patiently work on, not something you can rush through.

use two save slots.

1. Let the monsters in the hall spawn, kill them all as quickly as you can, heal yourself, and save that game in one slot

2. Run into the room, turn right immediately, run to the platform in the corner, face the center of the room, let the fireballs hit you, and save that game in the other slot. Use another platform if there happens to be a wraith on that one.

--- this is the game you will play from. The first one is a backup. --

3. Load the game, then run forward (toward the center of the room) with the w key, and jump by tapping the space bar. You need to keep holding down the w key, and tap the space bar as needed to keep jumping. Use the mouse to steer.

This will send you flying and you try to get as high as possible and as near the center of the room as possible. You can see the stone floating up there. I usually had to circle around some to get to it.

4. Keep your eye on the bottom of the screen. When the soul stone is in reach, the little dialog box that says 'soul stone' (or whatever) appears. You hit the shift key to get it. It will say 'soul stone acquired'. As soon as you get it, run all the way back to the preceeding room.

If you fail, don't fool around with anything, just reload and try again.

You might want to practise 'flying' a few times. I had to circle back usually. Get to where you can notice when the little dialog box pops ups. Once you can see it regularly, you try to grab the stone.

Once I got this method, and practised three or four times, I got the stone on about the fifth try.
