Ghost in the Shell… Ghost in the shell 2: Innocence… two movies which are often discussed in very good light. But after seeing both movies it didn’t really meet the hype they have gotten.
In the original movie there was just one big question mark and movie itself didn’t offer much answers. Normally I would be praising movie similar to this one, but Ghost in the Shell didn’t even answer to question; who are they? Well it is a movie made to the fans so isn’t that quite typical thing for these movies? It’s a pity; all that wonderful dialogue escaped my mind when I tried to find out who they are. But best part of the movie was during 00.33-00.36 when there really didn’t happen anything. Just some beautiful sights from the city as the music played on the background. This break was needed and after it this movie finally got some wind below its wings and things started to make little bit more sense. Things continued and our heroine soon faced the end conflict and something new was born and the end is still quite original.
This movie didn’t encourage me to get closer look at Ghost in Shell manga or at Ghost in Shell series. But millions like Ghost in the Shell so how on earth so many could be wrong?
Sequel as stated various times before is very similar to original, but this time Batou is in the main role. Story still continues mainly by action scenes and in-depth discussions. But this time it is also lot easier to watch. Then those little peaks to heroes’ normal life is an truly welcomed addition. Plot in the sequel is quite similar to the one before so fans should be all that disappointed. But Ghost in the Shell 2 has better start than the original but ending isn’t as great as it was in the original movie tough the people behind those murders are quite unusual. “Major” also makes finally appearance in the end and fights along side with Batou.
Story ends and we see how one of the questions is answered. Happy ending and nothing really appears to have changed since the start of the movie. It is the little things that make good movies.
…
Work from studio Ghibli is lot better. But I presume that I leave that for some other time.
…
Haibane Renmei is just absolutely fabulous anime. It is top notch quality along side with Miyazaki’s work. But Haibane Renmei might not fit for most people since it contains no violence or spiky haired mech users. But for those who found psychological side of the Neon Genesis Evangelion to be most attractive should enjoy and love Haibane Renmei, hence my avatar.

I think you missed the real point behind Ghost in the Shell. It was never meant to answer questions, rather create them. When broken down, it's a very existential piece, dotted with questions of morality and humanity. It asks the very important question that is "what makes us human?" If it had been able to answer the question, I would have been extremely dissapointed.
It does hint at possible answers, though. In the first one, the merging of the Major and the A.I. could be considered the spark of humanism, in that they came together to create another entity, even though it lacked a true physical form. It also touched on the notion that humanism may simply be conscious mind, as opposed to physical body. As long as something can create free and independant, original thought, then it was still human.
The second one expanded the question from the base question, and continued further to ask"...and how do we know?" In this, is moves into the very basis of philosophy, going far enough back to Plato's Allegory of the Cave. In a world of cyber technology and cybernetic bodies, how can you tell if you're genuine, and moreover, how do you know that's the reality of the it all?
I think the problem you encountered with Ghost in the Shell is that you were expecting answers where you should not have. This is the very aspect that appeals to so many people around the world. It's a psychological and philosophical story, told in a post-modern civilization.
This is, by no means, meant to try and make you like it, as that's your own choice. Just thought I'd try to clear a couple misconceptions you had about the show.
As for current Anime I'm watching, I've been following one recent title called 'Suzuka'. It's a step away from the typical fast-pased, high-acton titles that pop up in this thread, but I've found it a compelling, and sweet series so far. It's one of those highschool love stories mixed with an athletic backdrop.
The basic premise is this: Akitsuki Yamato has just entered highschool in Tokyo where he encounters this girl Suzuka Asahina. From here it turns into both a highschool love story and a sports story. It's well crafted, with smooth animation, which is always a plus.
There is a fantastic twist in the story about 10 episodes in which hooked me on the series until the end. I won't spoil it, but it really sets it apart from the majority of other series like this.

Has anyone here watched Gunslinger Girl, or wants me to give them some idea of it? It starts airing on 12/10, and I'm SURE to watch it.

Well could you then seriously try to change my opinion? Though then you would need to write little bit longer post. But length isn’t the only thing where you should pay attention because proper analyzing and examples from the show would suite it quite well. I am sure that you are more than just capable to do it.

But I do not completely agree with your present corrections. Let us say that both Major and The Puppet Master are capable to produce such thoughts, but what if that individual still considers that it is just performing certain function without much of a choice to do otherwise? Aren’t both of them then just machines that have just realised their own existence but nothing more? Also wasn’t there also something about that either modern science or philosophy can’t define what life is. So in a world where the human mind can be programmed like a computer, at what point does the human soul end and the cybernetic machinery begin? Is such thing truly possible to define? So aren’t in this case Major and The Puppet Master just two sides of the same coin?
But why did Puppet Master choose major? Couldn’t he just merge with some other entity as it would be lot easier thing to do? But in nature certain specie can only produce offspring among the same race. But The Puppet Master is the only individual of his race and capable to control humans who have cyberware implanted to their brains. Why do everything by the hard way? In the nature there are races that are capable to mix together but their offspring is not capable to produce new offspring. But The Puppet Master isn’t under influence of the DNA. But what happens when two minds merge to one and to make sure that the new entity is capable to survive those merging minds should be quite similar. So I presume that this is the reason why The Puppet Master chose Major Motoko Kusanagi.
What, you don’t like it? Well do I need to post another theory if that is the case or what?
Ghost in the Shell: Innocence shall be watched. But I shall post something about it on some other time when my brains have obtained their full functionality.
I think the problem you encountered with Ghost in the Shell is that you were expecting answers where you should not have.
You clearly must be offspring of the famous Sherlock Holmes! But good sir what were those questions which I didn’t find an answer ten years ago? Surely you do understand that I have watched this movie countless times during that period? But mostly when talking about movies I tell what I thought about them after the first watching time. I guess that I should have stated that earlier.

When broken down, it is offering different theories and possibilities around matters such as morality, humanity and what makes us human. But perhaps the truth is somewhere between these two opinions. Those weren’t the things that I asked. Who, when, why, where, what and then there were specially questions about motives and reasons behind those motives and based on those questions first thirty minutes of the original film was quite painful thing to watch on the first time. I shouldn’t have expected that Ghost in the Shell would be similar to Tenshi no Tamago (Angle’s Egg).
……..
About Suzaka
Well it has total of 26 episodes this far, and as far as I know.
Well I haven’t watched romantic high school anime for quite sometime so I would really appreciate if you would tell more about it and perhaps describe certain scene that you like very much in that anime.

@Rondoor: not my place to give too much away regarding a series. I merely point out series I have checked out recently, bringing them to the attention of all around. My posts are meant to make aware, not sell. If you want to check it out, best way is to watch a couple of the episodes yourself.
Also, I'm aware it is a 26 episodes series, I merely had stated where I had watched up to.
As for your comments regarding my post on GitS, your entire post was an attempt to answer what I had brought to light, essentially analyzing my entire post out of order and context (when I had specifically said it gave no answers, merely hinted at possibilities). Like I have previously said, it is not my job to argue and convince you to watch this anime. I simply chose to enlighten you, considering you had obviously missed the point of the movie. It is hailed as a classic of anime, in both North America and Japan. That has to speak something for it. Like it or not, accept that other people do.

Ok, Witch Hunter Robin sucked. The last few episodes were rushed and poorly designed.
As for Gunslinger Girl, it's great - but you get the feeling that the animator is a little lazy, since in the 2nd episode they reused around 10 minutes of footage from the first 1 - in a 30 minute episode!

I recently (a few months ago) saw Howls Moving Castle at the theatres. Thats the most recent Studio Ghibli film. It was a decent film, not up there with Spirit Away in regards to its charm but still light years ahead of the trash being shown at the movies. If your a fan of Miyazaki's work then you'll definetly enjoy it.

I saw Howl's Moving Castle a while back, really enjoyed it - I did think it all seemed to come to an end rather abruptly though. Christian Bale was a good choice for the voice of Howl. I didn't think it was as good as Spirited Away, though.
I saw Ghost in the Shell 2 on Wednesday, and was quite impressed with the animation, slightly less so with the fact that they were quoting philosophy throughout - I mean, ok, it's a philosophical movie but do you have to make it so obvious? I don't really remember the first one, since I watched it late at night at Ode's after overindulging in certain herbal entertainment but seeing the sequel does make me inclined to go back and watch it.

No, this can’t be, not again. Why on earth this does keep happening to me? I had the perfect list of things that should have been added to the comment. According to etiquette it is now way too late to add anything, as I also believe that damage has already happened, there aren’t many logical reasons to add them now.
I am aware of the fact that my words might not mean much for you, but I deeply apologise for this inconvenience.

How did that song go?
I wonder how
I wonder why
Yesterday you told me 'bout the blue blue sky
And all that I can see is just a yellow lemon-tree
I'm turning my head up and down
I'm turning turning turning turning turning around
And all that I can see is just another lemon-tree
Fool’s Garden – Lemon Tree
It is truly a silly song but kind of catchy one though. I haven’t done this in years and as it appears to be I am truly covered with thick layer of rust. Heck I am not even sure where to start as my brain is only capable to produce things which can be considered to be accusations. I am not happy with this, at all. So let us begin and see where we end up!
…
May I ask why it isn’t your place to give too much information regarding series when you have just merely mentioned name of the show? Well you brought it up so wouldn’t it be your share to tell us about it and of course to do your best to reply to questions that might rise? Yes I believe that there are others who more than just capable to answer to such questions. We also shouldn’t forget how easy it is to type ‘Suzuka’ in ‘google’ and then just click ‘search’. But wouldn’t it be a lot nicer if you would post a proper reply to such questions? This is a forum after all.
Here are couple links that might be helpful if you are interested about that anime show. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... hp?id=5113
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,1705 ... uzuka.html
http://www.anime-source.com/banzai/modu ... nt&id=1342
According to those it could be quite interesting. But for me, all romantic anime is really starting to taste like cardboard. Then I sadly have to admit that if I do a google search I will have just two options either websites such as those three posted by me or ones that really can spoil everything involving the show. So if someone has been capable to find site that’s information would be somewhat between those two options I would really appreciate if you could give me a link to that site.
Then I am aware of one Anime magazine that has extremely reliable reviews in plain and easy text. But I have to admit that it is quite unlikely to read review about Suzuka on it. I guess I’ll just have to send a review request to them, yet again.
So could you please reply to my questions about Suzuka? But if you do not like the idea I shall not ask anything from you. I shall wait you to reply to this question.
Well I didn’t mean to say that you would be trying to sell something; I just wanted to state that I didn’t buy the ‘extras’ as many others did and to say the truth some of the older anime fans got quite interested about the “GitS” manga after watching the movie. Of course people bought other “fan” products too. But there were also people who started liking that movie only after reading the manga and to be more precise in some version of the manga there was little trivia knowledge about the world that Shirow had created. I kind of hoped that you would have brought this up.
But now that you brought it up; are you sure that you aren’t trying to sell us something? Your post about Suzuka bears the resemblance of an advertisement.
¤ Let us talk about you first. You have been on this forum for quite long time now and you also have a high post account; these things matter to some people and they shouldn’t be judged because of that. Then you have also been a moderator, correct? So I could say that you are very creditable and more or less famous on this forum. You are a celebrity of sorts around here. When we also look at beginning of your comment about Suzuka all those things stated above are now connected; of course trust between product and customer could be born because of that.
¤ Then you directly stated that it is not quite the same with other series that have popped up in here. So it appears to be quite original when compared to the other anime names. Sure thing that people here like the fast-phased, high-action series. But you have talked about these series with them and now when you claim that this new series is good they might easily agree with you. Hey if that guy likes it why wouldn’t I like it?
¤ It is one those high school love stories is quite a big risk though as people might not have positive opinion about it or then they just connect “high school” to something less favourable. When I read it I instantly thought how many good love stories have been ruined with tentacle monsters; mostly those just harass young girls but there are other cases too. But all that is partially saved with that athletic backdrop. As majority of forum readers might be guys it is wise to add something which can be considered to be quite manly.
¤ Then you state the story in nut shell and repeat the previous part; though this time it is directly stated as a sports story. So the last drop of doubt should be gone now and wouldn’t it then be also a fun for the whole family? Sports for boys and love story for girls? When you said that it is well crafted I would be ready to say that it sounds quite good. Sort of hand made as nowadays almost everything is made by machines and its makers apparently have seen quite much effort in it. Support the good work. It is quite devilish of you to claim that it is just a cherry on the cake; a nice topping.
¤ The end is coming near and you tell about a plot twist. You don’t want to spoil it so it is a big mystery and it is a provocation to buy certain product in order to find out the mystery. Then there is a statement how it is sort of ahead of its competitors.
On present day most of us are aware of phenomenon called as political correctness. When it was first presented to me I thought that it was quite a good idea. Though eventually it just got out of the hands; causing some damages to it self when it simply went way too far. But to say the truth P.C. is spreading like a plague. So now we can continue.
When someone says that he is selling something it doesn’t sound good at all. Most of ordinary people might also connect it to someone walking door to door trying to sell something. Walk on a street and among the people you will see an endless mass of advertisements. Human race gets quite pissed about lot smaller matters so selling something might not be all that wise. So what to say instead of ‘My job is to sell this product’ one possibility could be ‘My job is to make people aware of this product’. Those two have pretty much the same meaning and yet they are still quite different.
So are you 100% sure you aren’t trying to sell us something?
Now if someone has an unexplained need to use ‘report violation’ or send an angry personal message to that friendly moderator about Aegis and his advertisement campaign, please hold your horses.
Well I myself am under image that you can post a link on this forum as long as posting a link or mentioning certain things doesn’t bring the poster certain real life benefits or the poster isn’t affiliated with the site or the product. I do not believe that Aegis will gain any benefits from informing us about the anime show or that he would be affiliated with makers of Suzuka. So he wouldn’t be violating forum rules.
If someone is still keen of sending personal messages or using report violation. Please head this; it would be highly hypocrite to inform Aegis now as 68% of this topic could be considered to contain similar advertisements so Aegis wouldn’t be the only one to be blamed about this. You also shouldn’t ignore other topics too. I would also expect to see that you also post why you consider it be an advertisement. So enjoy writing! I personally wouldn’t recommend it.
I am aware of the fact that my words might not mean much for you, but I deeply apologise for this inconvenience.

Si hoc adfixum in obice legere potes, et liberaliter educatus et nimis propinquus ades.
So do what you want to do and use your own judgment. I would also like to see this matter to end.
If you intent to write an angry personal message or use report violation about me I would truly appreciate if you would be so kind to send the same text to me. Why? Well if one doesn’t realize a problem he cannot affect to it and generally speaking moderators don’t usually do more than post couple thug threats and that’s pretty much it. Sometimes it even feels like forums would be lot nicer without moderators. Tried persuading and blackmailing and nothing seem to work. Si tacuisses philosophus mansisses.
As for the 26 episodes; yes I knew that you would know it and apparently I also know it, but what about the others? Afterwards I could also say that I was hindering your advertisement campaign. But that wouldn’t really be a truthful claim. But you could still tell more about that show. Little facts will do. So in a one way it was an example for you.
But for me “just” checking couple of episodes will sadly not do for because checking couple episodes would involve buying a DVD. I admit that I do not know where you live but where I live those things cost money and I am not all that keen to spend my money on things that I might not even like. I hope you understand my point.
END of PART 1

Voice1: What is next?
Voice1: You try to flame I guess.
Voice1: Wise it would be you to avoid it.
Voice1: Don’t agree to play with his rules.
Voice1: You are smarter than this.
Voice2: Scribere est agree.
Voice1: You idiot.
Voice2: Perhaps, but his text has angered me.
So who are these two? What is the point behind all this? This truly has to be my curse.
You know about 3 ½ pages ago I had quoted part of certain song. You might want to read it again.
Aegis, please don’t be so hasty when it can only cause trouble to yourself and others. I personally would recommend for you to ask before you act. Especially when you are dealing with me. It really is no trouble to me.
I had quoted your post just for the sake of comparison. I also consider it to be quite needed when my reply speed is what it is. But let us do things by your way. So I have edited the first part to be so that there is just one quoted part in the very beginning. I am sure you noticed this.
Analysing? Thank you. That is really sweet of you and truly a welcomed change after that other forum. But let us not dwell on such matters and continue with this part. I did not analyse your post and you can vouch me on that.
So I in fact did analyse that movie but I have written everything in a nut shell so it could be easily proven to be correct or false by you. You could have also picked up model how to put things if you would have noticed my earlier request. Then there are couple of other ways to use what I had posted but stating all of them feels now quite unimportant.
But I must say that I would prefer nothing more than writing three different analyses from GitS and posting them here. But from experience I would say that it would only attract more trouble for me. It is actually quite ridiculous to see how the internet is being praised to be endless highway of information and opinions and when one represents more than just one opinion it is truly a most terrible crime.
What you posted earlier about Ghost in the Shell is often represented as analyse of this movie. You could do it properly but that is your call.
Then I certainly wouldn’t recommend for you to tell me what I have meant as I consider it to be pure act trollism.
Seriously what went wrong with you? I thought that I had given enough hints to make you doubt. Wasn’t it enough that my previous post was in out of order and context to be considered to be an answer? When you had more or less directly stated that it gave no answers just merely hinted at the different possibilities. What about the thing that I posted about Motoko? Surely it couldn’t be a product of analysing your post. This is all pointless, so let us end this.
Aegis, I would not want to argue with you and even if I would consider arguing as one of the options I would ask if you would want to argue with me. But it is most likely that I would ask you to debate with me and that would mean that we would need to argue about rules. So if I succeed to keep things between us the way I want them to be only thing which we will argue about is the debate rules. I do not intend to debate with you in the near future so you shouldn’t expect to have a personal message from me. In any case you should remember this; ‘De gustibus non est disputandum’.
Aegis, please ask before you try to enlighten someone and if you decide to do it take a deep breath and be patient.
So Ghost in the Shell is being hailed as classic in Japan and North America. But what about Europe, rest of Asia, Africa, Australia and Middle East? Then which gender would prefer such movies as Akira and Ghost in the Shell? What about your discussion with Squee and Ideal Maxima?(Was there others too?) This list continues quite far and I will post it as whole if someone wants to see it posted in here.
“Like it or not, accept that other people do.” Aegis is that an advice or an insult? If it is an advice I might give it back to you based on your behaviour on this topic.

So let us finally end this as my fingers are starting to hurt. But according to etiquette you may post a reply but I will not post a reply on that. [SilentWhisper](Thank god.)[/SilentWhisper]
Generally speaking all those new movies and series such as Steam Boy, Innocence… have been disappointments of sorts. One the thing being complained is that the plot is too shallow and other things like that. But there is one series that I would want recommend to those who were disappointed from those latest series and movies. That series is called as Texhnolyze. But now I’ll go to bed and sleep. I will continue this on the next weekend.
Bye!

Getting a little heated, aren't we?
Less than two weeks after it ended my local anime channel is showing GiTS: SAC again. I have to say that this is one of the few things in which some of its parts are greater than the sum of all of them. Like so many anime, the ending is somewhat unimpressive and artificial. To their credit they let some of the most lovable characters die, but that doesn't cover up the fact that it didn't end well.
On another note, did Patrick Sylvestre really exist?

I'd have to rewatch it in regards to Patrick Sylvestre.
For the ending, however, I would agree that most animes really seem to stick it hard. SAC, though, I felt did it somewhat interestingly, avoiding the typical approach of wrapping everything up. Not something I'd like to see on a regular basis, but a nice change.

Anyone watched Shakugan no Shana?
After being introduced to it by a classmate I'm now completely hooked. First I read the novel, then I watched the anime, and now I'm going to try to get the manga.
The anime is not as good as the novel though; missing out on quite a lot of...well...everything...explanation...emotion...hilariation...but great nonetheless.

Ok, I gave up sleep tonight to finally finish watching Neon Genesis Evangelion and The End of Evangelion.
I loved the EVA-series up to the 20th-episode. The original ending, though as confounding as I've heard it was (only watched it briefly once - and for some reason, on the Children's Channel...), was nevertheless fair, if a little hard to swallow for someone of my philosophy.
********SPOILERS BELOW************
All respect for the production crew was shattered with The End of Evangelion. It was a piece of ****, period, setting records for the quality of the series vs the quality of the ending. First of all, you have to have some seriously twisted religious beliefs to be able to accept it, let alone create it. The worst Christian wackos I've heard of don't come close to it.
Secondly, the twistedness of the violence and sex simply went over the edge for me. I had no problem with EVA-01 eating the Angel (13?) in episode 19 of the series - it was appropriate representation of Shinji and EVA-01's anger and madness - but the amount of blood and gore in EoE was, frankly, overly-disgusting. The side of my face was twitching for all of the last 15 minutes.
Finally, what the hell would happen after the ending scene? In the original series we knew, at least, that Shinji had found his heart, whatever that is, and that the Human Completion Project was done; there was a sense of actual completeness. In the OVA we see him and Asuka alone on a world that was worse than the South Pole after the Second Impact, which frankly makes one wonder what is going to happen next. The natural course would indicate death due to starvation. And what of the remaining humans? No hint, no clue, we don't know whether Shinji decided their fate too to return back to humanity or remain as pools of LCL. We don't even know what had happened to Asuka, she didn't went onto EVA-02 with bandages, so how did she came off with them? Tt might be fun to leave some questions unanswered for audiences to think about, but this is wayyyyyy over the edge, it is a joke, made at the expense of the audience, there isn't even a clue as to what ending we, as the audience, could give to the movie ourselves.
Fans of EVA, forgive me for thinking that the original ending offered a much better solution to all the character's kokoro problems.
For bad endings, another anime I finished this month, Mai-Hime, shared the same woe, only less serious. The problem? It ended too well. All the way up to episode 25, it was doom and gloom, and one would expect something on the lines of the "cleansing of the world"; a break from the HiME's destiny, true, but one that would come at a terrible cost. Instead we had a true fairy-tale ending, all the dead characters, no matter how nobly they died (remember that a noble death should mean proof from reanimation), come back to life, and school and life goes on NORMALLY. Deux ex machina at its finest; even God himself would have trouble imagining such an absolutely perfect ending; hell, they even tamed female "wildcats" who were having pounces at each other with fire and claws over a male character until he died, and that was supposed to be impossible.... Overall though I didn't dislike Mai-Hime; the ending, however bad, made the viewer happy, and that counts for something, and the theme was sufficiently deep for it to be free from the crowd of cheap shallow anime. Perhaps my greatest gripe was with the ED song, but the rest of the music was excellent; it was Yuki Majiura at the helm, after all. Definitely better than the crap that was the manga.
On the other hand, Gunslinger Girl finished airing over here, and it has one of the finest endings of any anime I've watched. The overall theme of Gunslinger Girl had never been one of happiness; indeed the audience knows that there is no future for any of the girls, but the ending gave the audience a feeling that, although they will die young, they would also die happy. Nothing so happy as to spoil the air of sorrow, but sufficient to give the viewer a warm, if slightly heavy, feeling. A very fine anime, and the full 13-episode DVD should be fairly cheap, I definitely recommend it. Especially for fans of CS and other FPS
Also done the 26 episodes of Tsubasa Chronicle that had been aired for the time being (from CLAMP, creators of Card Captor Sakura). The manga was truly excellent, full of hope yet far from cheesy, and highly recommended if you could read Japanese/Chinese or somehow found an English version. The anime was another matter. Everywhere I get the feeling that the animators were simply too lazy to draw lots of people or good action scenes. At episode 16 there was supposed to be a gladiatorial contest involving the strongest fighters all over the nation. Guess what, there was a nice colosseum around, but no audience. Oh my god. All the contests done in one day, from the initial fights to the finals, and not one single audience - what a bloody joke. All the power present in the manga illustrations were lost in translation. Only the character designs were acceptable, and that was originally done by CLAMP. For god's sake, hire some hard-working animators, for CLAMP's own reputation - how could it have worse action sequences than Card Captor Sakura? The music, once again by Yuki Kajiura, is fairly good, but again the ending theme disappoints.
Now planning to watch Haiben Renmei. Kino's Journey has started to air over here as well, replacing Gunslinger Girl, and I'm extremely happy with the first episode; and of course expecting more. If you could get your hands on a copy of the Kino's Journey novel in a language you can understand, I strongly recommend that you do so. It's quite a ways apart from what you would usually expect from Japan. The anime is excellent, but I recommend reading the novel first, if you can.

Done Haibane Renmei. It exceeded my expectations completely, and I'm very, very impressed with the music. As a matter of fact the music was one of the major reasons I watched it, and most reviews and viewer comments I've seen spoke very highly of both the music and the anime. For the first time, too, I'm tempted to try my hand at novelising the anime.
Action is almost completely non-existent, but the pace never drags, never feels too slow. Neither does it feel too fast either; I would be happy if it had carried on for 26 episodes or more, but the 13 episode anime cleanly and efficiently told the story, being neither too fast nor too slow to tell the main tale. Truly a masterpiece in the art of story telling. The artwork was also nice, having a very clean and pastoral air to it.
If you can't live without seeing fighting scenes, explosions, or cheesy love sequences, this anime is not fore you. But for those who don't HAVE to watch action scenes, and especially those who enjoyed anime like Totoro, I add my recommendation to the almost universally positive opinion of it.
Don't forget the music!

Read the Card Captor Sakura manga, and planning to power-through the anime during Chinese New Year. 70 episodes + OVAs...this is going to take some coffee  The manga has a slightly different - mostly because of it being shorter - story, and is missing in a couple of characters. On the plus side, Sakura looks even cuter
While we are on the subject of mangas I also read the manga version of Evangelion, but only volumes 1-9 at the moment. It comes very close to the original, and in fact the first few volumes are nearly identical to the anime series, although they start deviating later, probably because the manga is aimed at a slightly younger audience (14-15), and owing to the criticizm the anime received for having a confusing ending had to change something so that they could bring in an ending that is easier to swallow.

For a number of years, I have been going to this site to follow the postings of John Oppliger, which I have always found to be thoughtful and informative. I thought I would share it with you. This is the 2005 archive, but at the top of the page is navigation so you can check out 2006 or previous years. Enjoy!
