Conditions for final Dermin meet in ToB

Post by Quitch »

I have reached a level of paranoia about the reliability of Bioware scripts, such that when something doesn't happen when I expect it, I flee here. Nothing worse than having to go back to save 30 days earlier :)

What are the conditions in ToB for the final Dermin encounter? I've got a lovetalk of 56, had the Dawn of the Day dialogue, and have tried resting outside. Is it still operating on a game time counter (since the entire romance seems to have been shifted to real time)?

This is another point in ToB where Jaheira's romance gets stuck. :( Here's a fix I came up with:
 • Move your party to an outdoor woodland area like the druid grove.
 • Enter the following at the console: CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("DerminAppear","global",1)
 • Immediately rest the party with the game unpaused.
 • Next, highlight Jaheira with the cursor and enter the following at the console: CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("LOVETALK","locals",57)
Dermin & co. should show up to battle your party. Hope this helps.

There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

Ah another glorious bit of Bioware scripting. I thought 56 sounded fimiliar, it's what caused my probs in SoA :)

How do you edit these scripts? It can't be that hard to change the lovetalk values that get set and put it out as an unofficial patch.

Download the Infinity Editor Pro from TeamBG. Jaheira's romance is complex and involves no less than 4-5 dialog files and at least 1 script file, so be warned! ;)

Excellent, if it's easy, it's no fun :)

Many thanks for your help BTW.

Are there any other points where the script is known to foul up? I might wait until I've finished ToB before fiddling, don't want to stumble across anything :)

Speaking of Jeheira's romance, Meronia is not showing up for me. After Xzar died, the door to the harper house got locked (don't recall if it is supposed to do that), and I've tried resting for a while with no results. I know it's supposed to take longer if the PC is in a romance with her, but how long?

Condition(s) for Meronia's appearance:
 • If you are not romancing Jaheira, Meronia will appear almost immediately after Xzar's assassination.
 • If you are romancing Jaheira, Meronia will appear after you've had the following dialog: "This is a dangerous life we seem to lead, it does seem..." (LoveTalk = 26) and you've had the encounter with bandits.
Note: To trigger the bandit plot, after you've had the above dialog, take your party to a woodland area and rest.

It only needs to be an outdoor area, not woodland IIRC. The Graveyard will do just fine :)

My patch is compatible with ToB, so I think that it explains situation very well - I have received Jaheira's scripts from ToB and looked into them.

Guys from Bioware did only small changes in Jaheira's scripts in original SoA part and gave that as ToB scripts. They ignorred almost all my changes that fixed this unfortunate romance.

My advice : Install my patch : www.worldzone.net/games/manveru

Actually, conditions for the bandit plot specify an outdoor area that's not defined as a city type, which is what the graveyard district is.

The Umar Hills area is defined as a forest type.

Outside the de'Arnise keep works fine as well, as does the Windspear Hills, Druid Grove, and Temple Ruins.

Actually, my first go at the Jaheira romance, when I fragged the Shade Lord, Meronia showed up and chastised me for not keeping balance. Imagine that !

Manveru (or anybody with an answer):

I have played through SoA twice with ToB installed, and haven't even gotten past the Reviane encounter in Jaheira's Harper plot. If I remember the sequence correctly, Dermin comes by one time, Jaheira renounces her Harper status, then Reviane and friends appear, who I always kill. Guess my reputation or charisma is never high enough to spare them ;) . Jaheira never leaves the second time, and Dermin never appears again. There is an entry in my journal about Jaheira renouncing the Harpers and that's it. No Terminsel for me ever. I am not in romance with Jaheira at all (first game I was female, this one I'm half-orc), so that's not hanging the plot...

If I install Manveru's fix even though I'm not having romance, will that fix my Harper plot? Do I have to back up any files and put them back when I start ToB? If I install the fix now, will it fix the plot now, or do I need to go back to a previous save?

Thanks in advance, this whole Harper thing has been most frustrating for me, I haven't even tried the romance because I can't even get this story to work.
