How do I stay young? (pos spoilers)

Post by De_Priester »

Okay I've been reading up on the whole issue of getting older. I have a character at age 65 and well even though he still does the damage and walks te walk it's not as much fun playing a torn up grey haired toon. I have read about staying young by using some exploits such as the temple of avo or skorm donations to reduce a few years. Now I might be dense and I read up on it using the always handy search function BUT for the life of me I have no idea how it works.

1. Get the archeologist quest
2. Get 100k
3. Step into region
4. Hero save
5. Make donation
6. Reload

Now it was something like this I think but how does it work? What do I reload? Can someone explain it more in length? And I also heard this can corrupt your savegames? Do I keep the 100k gold and repeat the process? And how do I "donate" the lives to Skorm?

I have started a new character simply because I wasted so many points (and thus years) on things I do not use and want to do a simple build:

MAX strength
Max speed
Max Mana, slow time, multihit, heal

I think this will age me about 48 years combined with the 18 years you start out with I would have a toon aged 66 (65 max ofc). How can I prevent aging? Is there a mod out there able to help? I've tried using google but it came up with a lot of rubbish.

Now I know there is a lot in these forums about the archeologist exploit but I simply want to know how the mechanics behind the exploit work. And also more clearly how the donation process works (I hate making mistakes :P ). Now these forums always worked for me with bdg2 and morrowind so I figured to try my luck again.

Thanks up front!

Also is it true you don't age from certain skills? As in I read somewhere you only age from will powers? Is there any truth in this or not at all?

I am still looking for ways to remain young but so far no luck finding anything that helps. My new character will be at the archeologist quest soon by that time I hope to either know the correct mechanics to abuse the avo youth fountain or to have found another miracle cure for aging :D

Aging is inevetable
The only way to avoid it is to stay weak and feeble
How exactly do you plan on killing jack
Without being over 20?

Infact heres a quote from a random bard

"Age catches the swiftest man
As quickly as the slowest
Times aim is true, its mercies few
For highest and for lowest"

I don't know of any way other than the skorm/avo age decrease. While I agree it is annoying how fast your character ages in the game I really isn't that bad. The only thing that gets my is by the time I beat the game my character has white hair and everything. I didn't get to torment anyone as a teen and middle aged dude :(

To regain youth at Avo and stay young afterwards, you need to have much more than 100K, especially if you are good (you need less money if you are evil).

The best way to do it is to:
1. Max out the stats you want before doing the Archeologist quest. (otherwise, you'll take age again when you level up)

2. Then, when you do the Archeologist quest, go straight to the temple as soon as you step in the region (you can pick up the silver key in the pond in front of the Demon door and the Ages of will potion near a barrel where the earth troll is if you want as they will stack up).

3. Make a donation- a few K if you are evil and if you are fully good, it may require around 50K to get the "gift of youth". If you get the Sentinus instead of having some years in less, simply donate again (try 100-150 gold).

4. Hero save once you get the gift of youth - do not find the find the Archeologist yet.

6. Reload your game and repeat the process until you get the age you want. (this is why you need a lot of money. Note that each time you donate money, you get good points so if your were evil, you will need more money each time you donate as your alignment will change). It usually removes something between 4-10 years each time you do it. It seems random and does not seem to have anything to see with the amounts you donate.

Once you get the age you want, you can Hero save again and reload to complete the Archeologist quest without stopping at Avo this time, just to keep and "escape route" in case you would want to level up again and regain youth once more later on in the game.

Thanks, so one last question this hero save it saves up everything about your character but not the world hence you can rinse and repeat?

So to decrease say, 30 years I'd need around 400k gold? Gonna be hard to get that much. What if I sacrifice at the skorm temple first to gain some evil points how do I actually do this?

Correct

You will probably need less than that as I always hit 10 yrs of age reduction at least once or twice. There<s a money "glitch" you can exploit for this: If your guile is high enough, buy all the will and health potions (the perfume and precious stones from the merchant in Oakvale work fine too) from merchants and resell them immediately to the same merchant then rebuy and resell again, etc: you will make a huge profit on them and there's no need to exit the dialogue. You should be able to get 200-300K in about 5-10 minutes (age reduction is the only reason I use this glitch: i like when the pc is around 30-35 yrs, I think it fits the story better than a 65 yr old)

For the sacrifice at Skorm, just bring people in such as the mercenaries you can hire here and there or anyone else and sacrifice them during night time (I also think that sacrificing at hours like 9pm, 12am or 3 am gives more evil points but don't quote me on this)

I donated a little over 60k each time and right now I'm 28 years. Got a few levels left to gain and I can use it one more time just in case. I used the guile tactic to gain money however I made myself to much money so I'm spending it on houses now and I'll use it for women next, just to keep the game fun :D

I managed to become 23 but I think you might be able to get even younger, would be funny to see a kid wielding an obsidian greatsword :p a little bit like gats in berserk ;)

You can indeed collect on a lot of items, including an obsidian axe (around 2000gp I think it's worth) from a chest and some other small items. But money isn't all that hard to get and the best items in the game don't cost you anything except killing some baddies :P

It's a nice way to stay younger my hero is at 33 now and it's just more fun this way.

I'm not sure how I managed it but I only donated 3 times and my guy is now 18!

The first time was around 1k, second around 5k, and the last time 100k. I was wearing all the "evil" tats and dark plate. Not sure if that helped.

Nope not yet. I am stalling. :D I have been avoiding the gold quests as much as possible to drag the game on as my son finished it in less than two days, which was disapointing.

I am past the part in the bargate prison and haven't aged, which is odd. I think I still have one more donation available at Avo though so if I get much older will do that again.

Is there anyway to do this after the archologist quest through Avo or Skorm? Or is there anyway to get to next stage of the game without doing the quest? I'd rather not max out all my skills mid game.

Also has anyone tried hex editing the save to reduce age?

Thanks,
Xorkh

It's quite simple actually.
If you hero save only your hero attributes are saved.
So if you get the "find the archeologist" quest , you can get to the temple of avo and donate some cash and thus getting younger. Since this is the only quest that happens around the temple of avo it's also the only one where you can hero save and restart when you're younger.

Later on you'll only be able to do this once.

Hope this helps

i think so yes, with the "escort the traders quest" with the one that changes into a balverine at the end.
