[ToB]Cloak of Mirroring rants -no spoilers-

Post by White Rabbit »

Does anybody else hate the new animation for the cloak of mirroring? My sorcerer uses the cloak for its protective powers but now I have to command a glowing ball. Who in their right mind enjoys moving a glowing ball around while it casts spells which appear from nowhere. I think it was a mistake to change the animation, it looks much cooler to watch your sorcerer/mage cast spells and wack goblins!

... Have I got news for you! ;)

A week or so back I wrote a VERY similar post and got one hell of a cool  reply back from Sabre who had developed a replacement cloak with the same (ToB-style) abilities but without the horrid animation!

The post was entitled "Cloak of Mirroring (in ToB) - Yes, Again!" or you can search on 'cloak mirroring sabre' and find it.

If you e-mail Sabre, I'm sure he'll send you the file you need, which is copied to your 'override' directory.

Give me your email address and I'll send over the edited version of the cloak.

I totally agree. It does take away from the role-playing aspects of the game to be for example a 'dodecahedron' instead of a dwarf.

One question for Sabre...

I put the file in my override directory, but still the cloak is doing its annoying ball thing...is there something else I have to do make the override work? Or do I have to load a save from before I got the cloak? (yipes, I hope not! But I think I can find one if I need to...)

Thanks again!

My apologies in advance if I'm just a dumbhead, this technical stuff boggles :p

When you put the file in, it'll ask you to override one that is already there, did you? Another thing, if your game is paused, the globe will still appear; unpause and it will disappear about a second later.

Edit - I've just checked it, you don't need to load a savegame before you got the cloak. Here's what you do:
1. Go to the Override directory and delete "CLCK26.ITM"
2. Copy the one I sent into the Override folder
3. Start the game and the globe will dissappear after about one second; if paused the globe will still be there, unpause and it will dissappear

Sabre, if it's not a problem, can you send me the override for the cloak of mirroring?

Also, I am looking to start getting into item/script creation, and was wondering if anyone had ideas (not about where to go, but more like content ideas)

Maybe you should get your file posted on a webpage Sabre, its pretty popular. I havn't had any time to try the file yet, i'm working six days a week :( , but I happily await the site of my mage without a big glowing ball around him! :)

Jeffrey & lucid: I just sent the file.

dead0eye: What's your email address?

White Rabbit: I know, I sent it to Kevin Dorner at Baldurdash a while ago, but he haven't put it up on the site yet.

Am I the only one who liked the old Cloak of Mirroring powers (reflecting back on the caster) instead of the absorbtion? Yes, it made killing beholders really, really easy, but so does the Shield of Balduran.

If I delete the CLCK26.ITM file from the override folder, it stands to reason that the cloak would return to its original functions and animation, right?

Yes, just delete the file if you want the cloak to work as it did in SoA.
