saber & colour poll
In the ruleset that KOTOR builds on, off hands means the other hand then the primary.
So it doens't really matter if it is left or right hand - although most games would always show primary as the right hand and offhand as left. (Makes it easier and more simple)
And in the rules you are not equally skilled with both the main hand and the offhand from start, thus you get penalties for dualwielding weapons. This penalty can be reduced, for instance by using (what in the game is called) balanced weapons: as an exampel short light sabres are balanced, whereas normal are not. Using a balanced weapon in your offhand reduces the dualwielding penalty with 0/2 (where the first number is for the main hand and the second number is for the off hand).
So all other things things equal, then a person using dual normal lightsabres will have an offhand penalty of 2 greater then a person using a normal sabre as well as a short (due to the balanced bonus). A double bladed weapons is as far as I recall considered balanced in regards of the off-hand, meaning he'll not get a penalty compared to the one using 2 normal sabres.
I hope this explains it somewhat.

I personally love double-bladed light sabers, for my light side character I use a silver double-bladed saber and for my dark side a standard orange saber. (I never use it though, I fry people with my force lightning instead ) Consuler/Sith Lord is soo sweet.

Thanx Xandax. It did.
Well, next time I try to be "dark sided" and use short and "normal" sabres.
Still can't get the idea why I rather prefer melee fights than those force-consuming ones.
Well, we can't discuss tastes, can we?

DarthSion - Double Bladed lightsaber???thats sad....
for me all this talk about penelties, and off hands make no sense to me really. I dont allways understand it and nor do I care. Yes I want the best weapon and stuff. thats important for survivng the game. But more important, I just care about the fun of the game. same thing when I play pen and paper rpg, my GM allways got mad cuz I didnt understand things. Who cares? I wana have fun.

I always use one long, one short to minimise the penalties; I prefer two, as it enables you to make use of more crystals than a double bladed...
As for colour, I must be a traditionalist, because I always use red (or ornage, which is close enough on screen) if I'm DS and green and/or blue if LS. Indeed I'm so traditional that if I haven't found a red crystal when I get my saber, I won't use it until I find one...

I usually start out using either a single standard, or double bladed saber, then once I acquire a 2nd long saber, I duel wield. Crystal colour....well, I think the blue has always been my favorite. So one of my sabers is usually blue....the other one I'll use something different like silver or purple.
Sometimes I do what I want, most of the time, I do what I have to.

Actually, I think there was one jedi, at the battle of Geonosis in AoTC that from what I hear used 2 sabers, but blades down. I haven't seen this myself (I'll have to re-watch it), but I have heard mention of it somewhere. Some kind of rare lightsaber form. I think it's an extremely brief shot, but i'm not sure which one.

Oh mad! Blades down!?
That'd be sooo cool. They should put that in the next KOTOR game. It'd be like the scripts - choose how you want to wield the saber.

Two Long Blades for me ...
... and both in magenta or orange. Magenta seems fitting for the Jack of All Trades type that I like to play. Orange sometimes if I play a Consular. I like to use two full lenght swords because the dual wield penalty is no longer such an issue at higher ranks and the power is awesome. It also looks better in my opinion...

I like the single standard saber only. And when i first have made my lightsaber i go for blue color, then after advancing to 15+ i go for either green or cyan. Trying to keep up the SW lightsaber tradition =)
BTW heres the different colors (even in shops you get the crystals randomised)
Cyan/Teal/Turquoise
Green
Blue
Silver
Red
Orange
Yellow
Viridian
Purple
Bronze Belive it or not but there are bronze too, The center is yellow but the surrounding light is red similar to orange
I have noticed that Siths use Red,Orange and Yellow but ofcourse they prefer mostly Red
Jedi uses Blue, Cyan and Green. I have compared lukes lightsaber color to the cyan color in Kotor 2 and they match, lukes lightsaber is cyan, but in ST Episode 3 Anakins lightsaber is blue and luke got his lightsaber. I think the slight color differences is because Episode 4 is a older movie and the effects dont had to be most perfect.
Purple is used both by Sith and Jedi mostly of masters or consulars. Im not sure about Viridian,Silver and Bronze think they are neutral.
