Kensai/Thief armor?

Are dual class Kensai/Thieves supposed to be able to wear armor? Apparently I can put the shadow armor on (from Mae'var), although I haven't found anything else that works so far. (Perhaps due to the Thieves Only - single/multi/dual class description? Does this hold for robes with the more common kensai/mages that I have yet to try?)
