Leaping and jumping

Post by marty »

I am in the Shadow Ruins at the water puzzle and I have read the walk through but I am unable to make the leaps between pillars. I ALWAYS land in the water short of the pillars (I have spent the last two hours on this). I dislike leaping and jumping puzzles, the writers that put these in games always think everyone has the eye hand coordination of a 12 year old or a jet fighter pilot. I am neither.

Does this game EVER get past the leaping and jumping? I am getting very tired of it. Every one of those puzzles has taken me forever to get past.

I make one successful jump, save the game, make 6-12 tries for the next one, save it, etc. I can't do that where I am now because it takes too much time.

Right now all I have is a lot of frustration and no enjoyment. I wanted to finish this game before moving on to Dungeon Siege II which is sitting on the desk next to me. But I have to get some fun back to continue this game.

At least the monsters are easy to kill in the Shadow Ruins.

try the crystal of time

I think this is the last jumping puzzle (unless you haven't been to the Draedoth temple - I spent the better part of an afternoon falling off broken bridges - somehow I managed to roll instead of jump - really pi$$ed myself off...) I am not very coordinated either, but after a while I seemed to just get the hang of it... it seemed to help when I stopped playing for a while and went and mowed my lawn (riding mowers are more my speed)

I had a problem in that temple also. The physics in this game is off, you would think that running then jumping would take you farther. But it doesn't work that way. You have to find the exact right spot to stand then press the w and space bar at that time. If you are not in the right spot, you fall. If you are in the right spot, your standing start leap takes you across.

My problem with the water puzzle is that I don't have time to find the precise jumping spot. I tried for another hour today without success. I am not having fun right now.

The Crystal of Time does work, I was able to get through the jumps three times without any problem. Unfortunately, the gate does not stay open that long. It was closed every time I got to it. So I tried for another hour at normal speed without ever getting past the second pillar.

After 85 tries I have concluded that my almost 60 year old reflexes can't do it. So I am going to leave this one unfinished and move on to an RPG where intellect is more important than FPS reflexes. Too bad, this is the last relic I needed. The only other relic left is the one Ellowyn has and that leads to the end game.

I have a little over 3,000,000 points to spend but no increase in skill or ability is going to make this happen. This is a very visually interesting game and I did like the control system.

Farewell, the rest of you have fun.

Water jumping puzzle

The crystal of Time slows down the game clock including your own movements and it does help here. However, you have to invoke it before you go through the shadow door into the water jump area. That way the time required to invoke it does not come out of the time in which the shadow door is open. Otherwise, you will not have enough time to make it through the shadow door at the other end.

Even using the crystal of time, you don't have a lot of time to plan your jumps, so you still have to be quick, just not lightning fast. Also, the timing of the first jump is the critical one. Jump to the first platform just as the third one is just going under the water.

I find that moving to the middle of the platform, turning toward the next one, running and jumping helps as it's easier to line up on the next platform from the middle of the one you are on.

Good luck.

Use the walkthrough method and add to it the use of a crystal of time. Start the crystal of time before entering the water jumping area. This is the best method I've tried.
There used to be someone here who would take your saved game and make the jump for you and then email it back to you. Since they seem to be gone, if anyone is interested send me a private message and I will send you my email address. You can then send me your saved game and I'll do the jumps for you and send it back. D

Ferncliff, I want to take you up on your offer to make the jumps for me on this section of the game. I am about to give up on this thing, I've spent so much time trying to get through this puzzle. Problem is (sorry for the stupidity) I don't know how to send you a private message. Can you or someone else on the board tell me how to do this?

Thanks in advance.
