Malak (SPOILERS)
Malak (SPOILERS)
I'm fighting Darth Malak right now w/ a sentinel, without any powers that can affect the Jedi in stasis. I read through the various strategies online, but they all seem to refer to the same "dark Jedi w/ certain powers" scenario. Is there anyone out there that beat him w/out the force lightning, force breach, etc.?
Thanx ahead of time.

well, if you're not a darksider (boooo), then you probably know Heal, so my only real recomendation is not to use force powers on anything except for healing when malak runs off like the pansy he is to recharge. And also, try setting difficulty to easy: that usually works
Get up, stand up. Come on, throw your hands up.

Take jedis out two at a time while healing
IF you have death field hes apiece of cake/pie/(insert sweet delcious piece fo something you want to eat here) malak takes jedi bodies out one at a time YOU with death field can tak out two at a time so you start the battle back at full health. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. Decapitate.

If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him.

The destroy droid series works on those jedi in stasis, I believe. It seems that people always forget to try that one...
Anyways, heres a helpful link... http://www.gamebanshee.com/forums/showt ... hp?t=66132
Also, you may want to ask Xandax to add spoiler to the title of this thread...

I did fine, essentially just using hit and run techniques and focusing on the stasis jedi not malak himself. I don't know about the destroy droid thing, but heal and med packs work great if you just run around in circles when your health is low so you can heal. Once the jedi are all gone just wail on Malak.
"Be thankful you're healthy."
"Be bitter you're not going to stay that way."
"Be glad you're even alive."
"Be furious you're going to die."
"Things could be much worse."
"They could be one hell of a lot better."

Yeah, you really need to add "spoiler" to your title (that is have a moderator add it to your title) or at least to your post (that one you can actually do yourself).
Anyway, your question. As a few people have pointed out, throw lightsaber works on the tanks, as does (I'm 99% sure) destroy droid. I believe that you can even use ion grenades on them (not so sure about that one).
Regardless, running and curing is usually the best strategy if you aren't particularly powerful in terms of Force powers or lightsaber strength. You can also use mines and grenades on Malak after you run away to help weaken him a little.

For a complete light sider, all you need is throw lightsaber. I'd HIGHLY recommend placing mines on the ramp before you face Malak. I'd also recommend having Force Resistance on before talking to Malak. I tried to defeat him on Difficult without doing this, and got killed. It might be possible to finish off Malak without the mines, but on the highest difficulty you need to use all the tools at your disposal. Who cares if using mines are 'cheap'? Your goal is to beat Malak. Any other consideration comes second.
I did try Force Wave, but that has no effect on the captive Jedi. I did not try Stasis, but you should have more than enough force points to use Throw Lightsaber to eliminate the captive Jedi. On the highest difficulty, I feel that you need to minimize the number of times you face Malak. He hits very hard with his melee and force attacks. Not as hard as a Rancor(I had one hit me for over 150 damage), but there are not many opportunities to get far from him to heal up or go after the captive Jedi.
P.S. - I finished the game for the first time on the hardest difficulty today, after restarting at least twice on Normal.

I'd rather be part bull than a complete sheep.

Thanx for the help all. Ironically, I beat Malak the very same night. I apparently wasn't that clear in my first post. I had no feats or powers that could affect the stasis Jedi. I wound up doing a hit-and-run move, w/ emphasis on the running. Anyway, thanx again.
p.s. Sorry about the lack of "Spoiler" tag. Hope I didn't ruin anything for anyone.

Fun with Malak
After killing Malak, I've decided to help the other forgetful folks like me out there with a few small "common sense" tidbits: Make sure to save up grenades, life support packs, and hyper stimulants (especially battle ones). I fought Malak nearly empty-handed and almost didn't succeed. I also didn't get the timing right at first and he drained more corpses than I really needed him to at the beginning of the battle. Once I got the timing down, I barely survived. Also, I went the LS route, but I was DS from Manaan until meeting Malak. This can have some bad consequences. By the time I ended up fighting Malak on the last fight, I was cold, hard neutral. My force powers sucked (what ones did work on him, and also draining the corpses cost me plenty of force points to cast). I'm still not completely sure what caused my DS to head toward neutral. It might've just been some "good deeds" that were required to get through the story and were there simply because I'd chosen the LS storyline at the first Malak meeting. In the end, I beat Malak with about 2% life left, and no force points! Scary, huh?!

I never used many stims at all in the game, let alone fighting Malak. Your player stops fighting to inject himself and Malak gets a free hit... mostly, I sold them and bought medpacs and the l;ike. Much more useful in the long run.
I never really used exessive amounts of grenades and other armaments of that type. I did not like using these things against moving targets, and I found mines almost all but useless when I tested them my third time through.
I recomend that if you still have time left to begin upgrading your characters CON stat. Althoguh my defense was rarely legendary, my CON made up for it by being able to take hits doing forty damage from a total count over five hundred (not thousand, edited).
I did not use force abilites against Malak. He had to strong of a force resistance for them to do any real good...

Malak and stims
Actually, you don't have to make your character stop to use stim packs. Maybe this is a spoiler, but I just go into the start menu, "use" the stims in there, and exit the menu and it's already used. There's no interruption in the combat timing. Of course, you can only use one, so when fighting Malak I'd hit start about every second or two and try a stim. If it says I can't because I already used one, I exit the menu for half a second and hit then start to try again. I usually try to stim up before a fight, though. So I mostly use this trick just for healing.

If you have the 'speed' series of (neutral) Force powers, these can be very useful. Turn them on and run round and round the room in the widest possible circle. Eventually you'll outdistance Malak enough that he switches out of combat mode and stands still, ignoring you. You can then use any healing or buffing powers you want, wait for your FP to regenerate, or set loads of mines. Indeed, even if you don't succeed in getting Malak to drop out of combat mode (something much harder here than with the Bosses in KOTOR2), you can still get far enough ahead of him to set a mine without being hit. You can also use the time while he's regenerating himself using captives to either heal or set a mine or two...
NB. Malak casts Force Breach a lot. Keep an eye out, and recast Speed every time he does so.
