Erm, anybody seen Magrus lately?

Anything goes... just keep it clean.

I agree we should be cautious. Does anyone know if Magrus has done this before and if so for how long ?

What do the people who know him best think about what his reaction would be ?

Um...just thought of something. Did anyone check the hospitals in the Rochester area?
They can say whether someone is or isn't in a hospital right?

Magrus always tells when he goes off. He goes like "I'll be off for the week". Sometimes his comp goes down, but he always fix that in a few days.

IMO, somebody like Cuch who knows him reasonably well would be the best choice to make any contact. Moreover, he is relatively close to Mag distance wise... So if there was something seriously wrong.. he'd be in a better position to help, if that is what he chose.

We may have narrowed down a phone number and McD location... but... as I said above... Cuch would likely be the best to make any calls like that...

Thoughts?

I know I'd be pretty disconcerted if a bunch of people at GB who didn't know many of my personal details tracked me down.....

That could be done too, but I'm not sure hospitals would tell strangers that, would they ?

OKay... I have some definites...

I have his IP address (I promised not to distribute it far and wide)

As Hill notes: The host name is in Rochestor.
I also have the phone number of his ISP, which is actually based in Herndon VA.

Added to that, one of the locations I have for him from a couple of search engines matches one of the McD's locations.

So: I have a phone number for his ISP
A possible home phone number
A possible work location

I'm just sort of pausing now though... As I said.. I think somebody who knows him a bit better, should be the person to attempt contact...

We also need his old phone number from Athena.. and possibly a new one from Oscuro Sol....

Any thoughts?

If mags internet IS down, isnt it likely that his phone may also be down?

And personally, I would feel slightly alarmed if the GB community got ahold of me in a situation such as this, but I would also be glad that I had such a supportive community with my back and always there for me. :D

Exactly, for him it would be a sign that he didn't post all that nonsense for zip. (*a feeling that often overcomes me :) )

Maybe we (read: cuch or smone like that) should just call McD and ask if Mike showed up at work lately and if not, if they know where he is and if they could write a not for him saying: "GameBanshee says hi! Be affraid. Greets, DragonWench, ik911, Luis Antonio, chus, Fiona, Ravager, Cuch, Giles, kipi, CM, Lestat and chimeara."

(Well, we could leave out the 'greets: etc' part...)

(Or we just don't ask them to leave a note... That way it isn't intimidating on him)

I tend to agree with Chu and Ik. It's not like we can pretend we haven't done this if he does come back. Assuming we can't delete the thread there's no going back. Standing still doesn't seem like a long term option. So if we can agree about that, we really have to take the next step at some point. The question is when.Or so I think.

You know, I agree. I will give him a call. Either myself or Athena should do it, I guess. I don't know if it's a good idea, but to quote the immortal Strongbad, "Since when have I been one to back down from a bad idea?!" :D

Edit- you know, if I were Mag I would be lurking, not signed in, laughing like crazy.

Update

I know Cuch has been persuing phone numbers.. I'll leave him to post as he sees fit regarding that.

I have contacted Mag's ISP... I'm waiting to hear back from the person who can apparently help me.

I have also used googlemaps (very helpful) to pinpoint all the McDonald's in the Rochestor area..

I need to head out for a while and attend to RL necessities..

Well copy me into the list and i will see if i can call the wanker as well. I would suggest Cuch call him for certain first. Also i am shocked by what we geeks can come up with to get the tabs on someone's real life locations. Imagine what the government can do! Lastly i wonder if you wankers would care so much about me :p Yes i am spamming as there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel.

Well... all the phone numbers that DW found were not in service. Hopefully DW will hear back from the ISP provider. If not, I guess we start calling the McD's. Beyond that, I'm kinda at a loss. I even tried a number we believed to belong to a relative, but that was a dead end as well.

@Fas

I am stunned at all the info we dug up! By 'we' I mean 'someone here other than myself'- I certainly don't have any idea how they got that info.

As far as missing you... well... you've been away for periods of time in the past, right? I still have yet to call you... ;) :)

How long exactly has he been away from GB?

Last posting on the 4th of October local time. 2 weeks now.
But Magrus has seldom been away for more than a few days, without him announcing it before.
And he seems to be absent on other message boards + no reaction on different messages throug mail or IM.

Additionally we are worried about Magrus's health. He usually says if he is gone for long, normally everybody here does. But the main reason for all this concern is linked with his health and general well-being. If we knew he was alive and well we wouldn't give a damn really :p

Cuch may you rot in hell. :p Oh yeah Baluchis is a great Indian resturant in New york. It is all over Manhattan from what i have seen. Mainly on the East side. I recommend that place and its Chicken Makani. See I didn't forget :p

Still jumping the gun a bit aren't we :) . I'm sure he'd appreciate the concern, but others have mentioned how it might be less than savoury to be chased up by a message board community.

I think that if something has happened to him, he has all the people he needs around him regardless (his ramblings reveal a wide circle of friends :) ). A gesture of concern seems to be all we could do anyway.

Still waiting to hear from his ISP..
I'm going to have to call back tomorrow, because from what I gathered of their hours they will be closed by now...

We may be jumping the gun... But as has been stated... this kind of behaviour is unlike Magrus. He is usually around all the time, and when he was planning to be away he told people. Further, even if his comp/ connection were down... Before he posted from elsewhere when that happened.
Add that to his health problems... and yeah.. there are grounds to be concerned.

Another possibility... and not one I'm keen to pursue... is to ring the Rochester police and ask them for suggestions...
