Flail, because you can get the Flail of the Ages in Chapter 2. Also, you can get Celestial Fury (Katana) right away so that has to receive a vote.

Later on, acquire Hammer for Crom Faeyr. Otherwise, there are still tons of great long swords which you can get both early (Daystar) and late (Equalizer, Blackrazor).

depends greatly on your character race... If you are an elf, longsword and longbow are definite must haves.

Hm, Longsword and Two-handed, you get many cool swords, and two-handed...obvious, eh?

I play a paladin(cavalier-I use axes for range weapons), so 2 handed is usefull with carsomyr and flail of ages is good.
i think katana is a wasted slot b'cos good magic katanas are very rare.
i would aim to end up with 2 slots on flail, 2 on 2 handed weapons, 2 on 2-handed sword and 2 on axe. if u get any more over that they would go on hammer for crom faeyr

yes, magic katanas are very rare, but celestial fury is one of the most powerful weapon. IMO drop axes and take katanas.

Indeed, Celestial Fury is available from the start, but if you can actually get it from the start, hats off to you!

dual wielding a long sword with an axe is cool (like the retired champion in gladiator, the tiger fight bloke).

i prefer to stay away from super weapons - eg crom faeyr or equaliser - they make the game too easy, one hit and any mildly hard monster is dead meat, not to mention all the immense stats bonuses (25 strength from crom faeyr), etc.
... and you know it's true!

I am currently playing with a female kensai, level 17. I have 9 out of 10 weapon proficiencies filled as follows:

katana ++++
dual wield +++
longsword ++

I mostly use celestial fury, but I also have daystar and equalizer, and a katana+2. I am undecided how to use my last proficiency. Any suggestions? I am inclined to go all the way to grand master with katana and resign myself to being merely special with longsword, but I don't yet have blackrazor.

i would say long sword, there are so many good ones in the game. Dragon slayer, Daystar, blade of roses, the equaliser etc

two handed swords are good as well, the warblade +4 is very nice Image

I think Celestial Fury is overrated. It's only +3 and while it's very effective against the 2nd team, it's not quite so hot when you have to fight the "A Team", who may be immune to the additional powers. There's not really another Katana that's special, unless maybe you're a Kensai/Mage and dual-wield, none are +3.

OTOH Azuredge (Axe) does 3d6 damage, works as a missile and melee weapon and may do extra damage against undead. There are several other good axes: Hrothgar, Bala's Axe, Frostreaver, Stonefire, Rifthome, etc.
