The troll doesn't seem to appear everytime early on. I'm not sure but it may have something to do with the escort traders through Darkwood quest, have you done this one yet?
I've found the easiest was to get the multiplier up is just to use a bow, hold the button for a long time while rolling/running out of the way of any boulders the troll throws. It helps to a decent bow and some experience in accuracy for this but it does mean that if the troll doesn't appear you can leave the area and come back until he does (this would cut your CM down a lot if you built it up first).

The easiest way to get it in my opinion is to go to an area where an unlimited number of enemies spawn (undead are easy enough to kill), then recall back to Greatwood Caves once you reach around like 40 multiplier.

When going to a new area, your combat multiplier is halved. So if you have 25, you would have 12 and a half when you enter the new area, which is not enough. As such, try to get 29 to give yourself 14.5, which is enough time to talk to the door.

But will it work even when im on the quest where you must save the boy from a elf in the hobbe caves( started at rose cottage). ill try ASAP, i dont really get the recall option-thing, how do you recall???

Thank you very much

Finish any quest that involves this area and then do the following.

Go to the area where the demon door is (can't remember the name).

Now use your guild seal to teleport somewhere you can get large amounts of experience. (A good one is Windmill Hill, so you teleport to Bowerstone South then walk the way). Once you reach a CM of 29, use your guild seal, and you have the option of returning back to the last area you teleported from. Use that and you are back in front of the demon door.

Hope this works, good luck.

It Still Doesn't work, i'm now at the Rescue the Archaelogist quest (didn't take the quest card yet) but when i go to the demon door, teleport to bowerstone south, walk to windmill hill, there are undeadcantget it higher than 20. They don't just keep coming, after i killed them all there are zero new undead. Im jusing Ronok the Axe and Skorms Bow, should i use those weapons or just bows or a steel katana to get more strikes, i tried that but i doesnt work. should i finish the Rescue the Archaelogist quest first. Or have yo got a better place to kill creatures??. Please help me, i just cant figure it out :(

If you have a good bow, go to Greatwood Caves and hold down your bow IF the earth troll is there. Hold your bow for probably about a minute and shoot him. Block all attacks. This shouldn't kill him, but if it does it should lead you to 14-15 combat multiplyer. If it doesn't you should have aound 10-12. Hold down for 10 seconds and shoot. You should beable to get 14 combat multiplyer by doing this. It worked for me.

If it doesn't work and you have physical shield, go inside the hobbe cave. kill all the hobbes in the path you are in. Don't go anywheres but there to kill creatures. After killing them all, hurry and run out. Then kill all the monsters that are in there.

p.s. you should have skorms bow by now. That will indeed help into getting this weapon.

hope helps.

The way i allways get that sword
Is by using my bow on the undead at grey house
(Original Version)
I shoot them with just enough power to hurt them
And keep doing so until they die
Gets me about 22 combat multiplier
Then recall to the door beat up the troll or hobs there
And i usually have over 14 combat multiplier

EASY Cutlass Bluetane

I've found that the easiest way is to, as soon as you enter greatwood caves from the greatwood cullis gate area, stop moving. The earth troll won't pop up, yet. Then, since I already had the skorm's bow, i charged it for about a minute, completely out of harms way. Then I took a few steps foward until the troll popped up, and let go. Bam! One shot, combat multiplier of 24, easily enough to walk right in to get the Cutlass Bluetane. No Hobbe Cave, no magic, no dodging, just a little holding of the X-button, easy as pie.

--Not sure how other bows would fare, may need to charge longer, not sure.

Cutlass bluetane

I always get it after I've done the trader escort quest. I go to greatwood caves, teleport to oakvale, and start hitting maz until he's at the entrance to cliffside path. I then keep hitting him until I have combatmultiplier 40. Then I recall to greatwood caves and hurry to the demon door. It's an easy way to get the weapon, and it gives u a reasonable amount of xp.

Ive got it before the trader quest, actually right before I go to darkwood I just go in the hobbe cave and slaughter a bunch of them and go in doors and kill more hobbes then go to the main entrance slaughter more and hopefully you get around 20+ multiplier then go out towards the demon door and slaughter the hobbes or earth troll to get your multiplier up to 14 (seeing as when you enter a new area you lose HALF your multiplier).

P.S. Make sure to you physical shield or have really good dodging skills to help you acheive 14+ multiplier.

The troll always dies to fast if i try to get my combatmultiplyer higher. I usually kill the bandits in greatwood and then go back, but either by bow or by sword it always dies to fast.

But i'll try to keep my bow drawn for a while and then shoot it...

Spoilers, please highlight:
Spoiler
Have you tried fighting hobbes around the Greatwood caves where the demon door that contains the Cutlass Bluetane is and inside the hobbe cave itself? Because fighting Hobbes will fetch you higher combat multiplier compared to thieves.
Speaking of which, there are numerous threads about the Cutlass Bluetane especially Joe05's thread buried somewhere deep in this forum. I suggest you do a search on Cutlass Bluetane to get more info. :)

The thieves gave me more, but are also more risky, since they are faster then the hobbes. There are more hobbes in the cave. I'll try a few things and i'll search for that thread. Thx m8. Sometimes its hard to come up with the good search words :)

Well, i acquired it. After emptying the hobbes caves with physical barrier on, and holding the bow for a while before shooting, i managed a nice 16 multiplyer :)
