Hi,
I've just started a ranger dc'ed into a cleric, and I was wondering if anyone had any good tactics that i could use.
Also would casting blade barried and then sanctuary work? would the damage done by the bb count as a violation of the sanctuary rules?
Cheers!
PS. Does nature's beauty actually work? I cheated up a ranger cleric to see what spells I got, but this one didn't seem to do much apart from blind people.
thnx.
Priest tactics
1. Yes, it works.
2. Nature's Beauty: save vs. death or be killed + no-save blindness. Your victims saved vs. death.
3. Tactics: I recommed 2 weapons+++ (the cleric cannot use bows), sling++ (Sling of Everard), war hammer++ (Crom Faeyr - you needn't haste with these ++), flail++ (Wywern's Tail), mace++ (Mace of Disruption and Skull Crusher), Sword & Shield + (when using the sling). The cleric is a powerful defender - mage. Also, it is not so bad with weapons (base thac0 limit = 5 and you get one '+' every 4 levels). Choosing a cleric a a protagonist is a wise choice (when you gain the Slayer ability and lose your innate spells, you will not lose access to Draw upon Holy Might and Slow Poison). Train your ranger/cleric as your expert in blunt weapons. Start with Guarded Compound and the upper level of the Sewers - this gives you a Morning Star +2 and the Wyvern's Tail soon after beginning the game (a perhaps less known detail: Wyvern's Tail can kill trolls). Do not forget the Wondrous Recall spell - you can cast it!
Nice spells you can cast:
1. Aerial Servant - summons a Greater Air Elemental without problems with elementals. Yes, always a greater one.
2. Gate
3. Creeping Doom - whenever the monsters aren't too resistant to weapons.
4. Nature's Beauty is not so bad because of no-save blindness. Dragons, liches and other super-resistant monsters can be safely blinded and sometimes (not too often) killed by the spell.
5. Dolorous Decay - another druid spell. When it passes then God with the victim.
6. All defense stuff - Protection from Evil, Death Ward, Remove Fear, Lesser Restoration, etc.
Your stronghold = ranger's stronghold (Umar Hills).

"Turn Undead" is really useful.....use it as often as possible against Vampires and other pesky undeads......

Thanks!
I assumed that turn undead wouldn't work that well against vampires, but i guess at higher levels it works okay. (but what do i know? i thought wyvren's tail was in the planar prison .) the vampires shouldn't be too much of a problem anyway, since i always get the amulet of power as soon as the price goes down.
thanks!

At really high levels turn undead rocks. Vampires not only can be turned but if you keep it going long enough they become your servants.

@Radek: it never said that they saved, that's why i worried. i thought dioguys might have dummed it down in the patch or something, so that it only works against people with a certain number of hp.
@KN: don't you only get control of the undead if you are evil? (more's the pitty.)
I wonder if you can turn Bodhi, and make her your servant?

1. They cannot say that they saved - they didn't save vs. blindness.
2. You can control undeads even if you are LG. The Control Undead spell allows it. The spell is a charm-like spell that works with undeads.
3. I believe that Bodhi cannot be turned. She is level 29 so that your priest hasn't enough level under normal circumstances. Perhaps, soloing fanatics could know more.

Not sure. I was using Viconia at the time and I never could put up with any of the good characters whining long enough to test them.
I think I tried it on Bodhi and it did not work.

Good priest turn/destroy undead. Evil priests control undead. Viconia's good for picking up unexpected allies like this. Makes hunting Bohdi much more interesting when her vampire family turns against her.Originally posted by KN:

At high levels, evil clerics have a chance to take control of undead by turning, good clerics have a chance to utterly destroy them. This even works (in both cases) against liches.Originally posted by Watto44:

If you play a good cleric and take Viconia into your party, you will never fear vampires again
