I would have to say the Holy avenger with Keldorn along with his normal armor or maybe red dragon scale, gautlet's of orge power, Vhailor's helm (need bonus merchants) and cloak of sewers

For a mage the staff of magi+robe of vecna
for a paladin the Holy av.+dragon scale.........anyway there are so many good items that you cannot be great in this game
