NEED HELP with Riesek the Tanner...

Guys I need help. The DAMN tanner doesn't die!!! Am I doing something wrong? Or is this some stupid bug? (I'm in Ch. 2 and new to D&D)I surround him with all of my party and keep pounding him on the middle floor of the tanner shop. He is "NEAR DEATH" but doesn't die no matter what I do. (Does he have a million hit-points, LOL?) Is there a special way to kill him? Or is he supposed to escape as part of the plot? I noticed it was real tough to hold him from escaping!

Thanks Weasel. I thought so. I was hoping I could KILL the bastard here and change the storyline a little. Maybe get his goodies. Oh well. Thanks a lot. I'm sure I'll have more questions for you later.
