Less Than Sticky Fingers
Less Than Sticky Fingers
I need to pick a lock on a chest so I can.... borrow.... some equipment. Sadly Imoen (my only thief) isn't skilled enough to pick the lock, can anyone help?
Like where I can find a potion of Master theivery?
Or any other tips?
(oh, and I have no mage so I can't use knock)

What level are you now?
How about bashing the cabinet (or whatever you are intend to open)?
Only places I can remember selling master thievery are High Hedge and the sorcerer shop in the Baldur's Gate.
Maybe Ulgoth Beard as well.
It's been so long since I have last played BG1...

Yeah, I dont know why not many people figure that out... They all say to wait until you dont plan on coming back when you can just wait until nightfall and they leave.
A strength of 18/00 is enough (45 lock pick skill) to open that chest, it just may take a few times. My fighter in bg1 always has that much strength so I dont need to worry about that part
EDIT: Also, a potion of master thievery can be taken from the thief in one of the big carnival tents at nashkel carnival, the one who pickpockets you if you let him talk to you. Kill him before he can leave the tent and you get your gold and his stuff back (which includes a potion of master thievery)

I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.
If you're not strong enough to bash it, go south to Nashkel and follow the road through the town until you meet a man named Minsc. Have him join you and he should be strong to bust that chest right open. Don't forget to steal from the Smithy at night.
You can also find a wand of lightning in the large house in the northeast of Nashkel. Should be upstairs and in an unlocked table.Originally Posted by Mr.Waesel

I role until I get 18/00 yes. I get 18/00 18 18 7 7 10. Something around that. I usually play a single class in BG1 anyways.

In Gnoll stronghold (among other places) theres the 2 half ogres who want a toll. Kill them for bracers of dexterity and a potion of hill giant strength. That oughta do it.

If you cant open the chest's in the smithie's by bashing them open, why dont you have one of your wizard's (assuming you have a wizard in your party) learn and cast a Knock spell on them???
You can unlock any locked chest in the game with this
(Unless the chests are magically locked of course)
but it's worth a try
