BG ToSC - Ulgoth's Beard

Post by msjenny »

I have both the original BG and newly added BG ToSC. I did not delete the first one when I added the second and maybe this is my problem. The problem is I can not get Ulgoth's Beard to appear on the map. I have tried from all directions and it will not appear. Can anyone help? I am in Chapter 5 and do not wish to go any further till I do the extra quests.
Thanks a bunch.

MINOR SPOILERS, all how-to-get-there stuff:

I'm going on old memories here, but you should you be able to get there by going to the city of Baldur's Gate, not actually entering the town, and instead going north/east around it. As I recall, you basically have to go upriver from Baldur's Gate--the river that's literally in front of the city, just follow it north/east. There's a piece of farmland where you have a mild adventure, and then with ToSC you should be able to keep going up to Ulgoth's Beard. I recall it took me a while to find, too. The walkthrough on this site probably has more info.

I saw in another post you said you're also not getting Durlag's Tower. There is some plot linkage between Ulgoth's Beard and the Tower, so that's probably your problem.

Ulgoth's Beard

I tried accessing it from both sides of the river in front of Baldue's Gate as well as from the little zombie invested farm. No go. I have two different walk throughs and neighter one goes into how to get there.

Thanks, but I am still trying to get there.

if i remember correctly it just appeared on my map after i installed tales of the sword coast. durlag's tower didn't appear til after talking with someone in ulgoth's beard. i also installed the expansion midway through chapter 5 and didn't have the problem so i don't think its because you didn't install them at the same time. i also did the full install of the expansion not the recommended/minimum install though so don't know if that has anything to do with ithave you tried reinstalling the expansion cd to see if that helps? you don't have to worry about losing your saves, all you have to do is go into the baldur's gate program folder and copy the save folder to somewhere like my documents then you have a back up in case you lose the original saves by reinstalling. afterwards you just simply copy them back.

Ulgoth's Beard appears on the map before you ever leave Candlekeep, at least it does if you start a new game after you install TOTSC.

If you installed TOTSC in the middle of a game, I'm not exactly sure how it's supposed to work. I remember there's an option to convert your saved games to the TOTSC format. (I think it changes the world map.) Did you do that?

Ulgoth's Beard..

My opinions may be someone else's spoiler.

Well I tried everything. Uninstalling everything in the original game and in TOSC and reinstalling just TOSC. I then moved back my saved game from my documents and still got a no go. So I started a new game and it was there as soon as I left Candlekeep. Lol ... so I am starting my new game with a saved character and wow is she strong and has all her spells and special abilities from a 6th level cleric/ranger. Plus Imoen started out with 50 hit points so I dual classed her into a mage. I picked up Kivan and went and picked up Stefana who has a 80% chance of opening locks. Great way to start the game. Never made it to the Friendly Inn cause I have 8 healing spells so far and more to come. So I don't have to put up with Jaheira's bickering or Khalid's whining. I now don't need another mage or a thief so I don't have to tolerate Xzar or Montaron.

So I am pretty happy with it all in all. Thanks everyone for all you help. Till we meet again......"Happy Trails to You".
