I'd second Lasher's comment. BG2 will give you plenty of items, lots of progressive spells, an interesting storyline, and even a mix of possible party characters who argue, comment, and occasionally take control of things. Plus, there are numerous mods around to add new quests, more party NPCs, more items, and more difficulty to battles.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

I third that opinion, as BGII is my favorite GAME (not just RPG) of all time and , though it's a bit different from FF, I'm willing to bet you'll love it. I'd start with BG1, however, if you're interested; it's also a fabulous game and will set the story up for you much better. If you feel goin a little more cinematic and slightly less open-ended I'd try either of the KOTOR games (though I'd once again start with KOTOR 1) which are available on the PC. The most wide open RPG i've ever played would be ESIII: Morrowind which has the biggest world and most weapons I've ever seen (you wouldn't need to start with an earlier ES unless you want to, though they're great games as well). There's a million others, but I'll stop there . Those games alone will keep you busy for the next millenia.

Well, you could try Shadows Over Riva. IMO good game, bit old thought (okay, veeeery old, from age of DOS and Win 3.1 ). The problem is that either it's very hard to get, becuase it's old, or to get it actually work, again since it's so darn old.
I had to work several hours to get it work in my Pentium 500 MHz 330 Mb Ram, WinXP, but it's possible, since I succeed in it.
So, if you find it somewhere and it's very cheap (or you get quarantee that you can return it if it does not work ), you should try it, I loved it.
Also, BG2 is good, as said here by others

I am not sure which game it is you are referring to, but we have dedicated forums to many RPG's. Perhaps you should scroll down the list for the one you want and commence a search there, where people are more capable to help you.

Check out the post header, Hill
He's speaking about Narina. Really not along the lines of this thread, though...

I could have sworn that was not there before. In fact, I am sure it was not there before, as I was looking for a title. I may be having browser problems again.
The Chronicles of Narnia is an action adventure game, and should be in Non-RPG Discussion.
Back on topic, although I have not played the game, I have heard much about BG2 as well. It would be a good idea to try it out.

While I am inclined to agree with Hill that BG2 is a fantastic game (even though he has not played it, which is akin to sacriledge on this site ), it is not the sort of game Kinza seeks.
My recommendations.
If you are seeking a console game, I would suggest games like Radiata Stories, Dragon Warrior 8, or the Breath of Fire series for the Playstation, all fantastic games. Additionally, a classic remake of a game, Romancing Saga. Very colourful and stunningly beautiful. Much of these (not Breath of Fire) are also Square Enix (formally Squaresoft), so they have the same publisher as the Final Fantasy series, which denotes a certain bit of quality.
For some older games, I can't recommend much for the PC, but perhaps Septerra Core, or the Quest for Glory series.
Though, to get what you are looking for, I'd suggest sticking to the console.

Aegis is quite right. Spam Removed. Please refrain from posting messages with no actual purpose.

Ok, my blonde moment with my browser is over, and Aegis pretty much described Final Fantasy to me, since I decided never to play it. I take it this game is a linear turn based RPG?
I have played a few of these, like Gladius, and Shadow Hearts: Covenant, but both are long, and sometimes repetitive and easy. I still feel like I am going off track here... so thanks for bearing with me. I would definitely trust Aegis on this one.
