Big Golems and all...

Post by The_Pope »

I once ecountered some Adamentite Golem or so, while wandering through Firkraag's Ruins. Really tough guy, then. Couldn't kill him.
Now I've completed the Underdark etc. and I found out that the Drow use Adamentite in their items to prevent ohers from using them. This Adamentite disintegrates when exposed to sunlight.
So I was thinking "hmmm, this might be a way to get that friggin' golem".
Here's my question:
Does Sunray kill Adamentite Golems? It should.
Well, anyway, I'm about to check out, so I'll let you know. If anyone already does, spill it out.

No, sunray will not work. Good idea though, if I was a DM, I would be tempted to give you that one.

Best way to kill the adm golem in Windspear Hills dungeon is to use a +3 two-handed sword, like Lilarcor. Get him caught in that little passageway where you enter the golem cave. Then position your guy with the Lilarcor and just keep whacking on him. If you position yourself right, he would be able to hit you, since your sword's reach is longer than his arm. And his poison cloud attack will not be able to reach you also if you stand in the right spot.

Or just buy the +5 Sling from Joluv and just stand back and chip away at him.

Yeah I used that tactic on the first Iron Golem I found (Nalia's Keep, also first quest I did, so I wasn't quite experienced yet). He couldn't get through the passage either, so the Flail of Ages came in very handy Image

For a higher level of security use the Dwarven Thrower but be sure to plan some time on this btw. you'll need a dwarf too..but who doesn't?

NOTE: sunlight does not destroy Adamantite, what it does do, is destroy the magic that the Drow use to create magical items, and that in turn destroys the items itself.
The reason why Drow Admantite magical items are so powerfull, is due to the radiation in the Underdark, which makes it easier to enchant more powerfull items (this is from all the books/novels on AD&D Drow and their environment)
A normal lump of Adamantite will not disintergate in sunlight. And unless the Admantite Golem was created in the underdark with Drow magic.

Have Fun

I thought that sunlight would kill Adamantine Golems too, tried it didn't work but when I was in the Planar Sphere the spell where you create balls of fire (not fire arrow) I forget what it was called, sorry did quite a bit of damage. There so big you can hide form them in safety.

Additional NOTE: The only damage Adamantite Golems take is the actual + of the weapon. A Long Sword +3 only does 3 points of damage per hit (5 on a critical). Also, Additional damage, like that of the Flail of Ages (+1Cold/Acid/Fire) does not hurt the Golem.
You get 25000XP for an Admantite Golem
