That's just one of the quirks of the game. The only medium weapon that you can dual wield is the rusted axe. Try dual wielding light weapons.

I take it you also can't dual wield when using any weapon other than light/medium? I'm dual wielding with a samurai/valkyrie, but I can't seem to get to use my heavy weapons while I dual wield my wakizashi....Or would I be able to use a primary heavy weapon if I picked up med. dual wield (even if I got stuck with such a cruddy off-hand weapon, it'd still be extra damage)? Don't wanna waste the time testing this if somebody's done so already

Thanks bro. I like the range of some of the heavies, but didn't want to give up the speed of the dual weapons for when I'm hard-pressed to get off an attack. Any particular weapons you can dual wield light/heavy with? I've been trying to get a giant battle axe with a secondary weapon (only heavy weapon with a 7 foot reach I can find early in the game). Or if you know another heavy weapon I can find EARLY with about the same range, lemme know I'll try dualing it.

Another Dual Wielding Q
I'm new to the game, and this could be a dumb Q, but I'll ask anyway. How do you dual wield???
I read that dual wield medium weapons is buggy, but what about light DW? I got dual wield light weapons 3, and i'm a Marauder. It won't let me equip two weapons. not even two small daggers. Is there a lvl req? I can't drag any weapons, every time i click any weapon it just goes to the primary hand. I tried taking the bow and shield off, thinking that would work. Nope. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think another one of the quirks of dual wielding is that you can't dual wield daggers. Lots of weapons should work in your main hand, but you might have to keep trying for a while to find weapons that work in your off hand. Just click on a weapon normally to see if you can dual wield it.

I think the only weapons that will go in the off hand are Kris blades, Wakizashi and Kamas + rusted axe if you have med dual wield. Has anyone gotten anything else in their off hand? You can carry any light or medium weapon in your primary hand and you can get a heavy weapon in your primary hand as long as it is one-handed. Unfortunately I don't have a complete list of one-handed weapons but all greatswords are one-handed (except maybe the greatsword) and demon blades seem to be onehanded (if you can find one). The barbtongue blades are two-handed including the blade of death. Anyone know if the No-Dachi can go in the primary hand? I think all heavy axes are 2-handed. When you hold a heavy weapon and a creature spawns your character will go in to his fight stance. If it is 2-handed you'll see your character reach over and grab it with both hands, otherwise the weapons are unlabeled. What logic went in to deciding what could be dual wielded is beyond me. It sure would be nice if they straiten it out with the patch. D
PS Alucard if you look at the sticky 'spoiler treasure map' you can find a chest that will give you a bronze kris blade early in the game. You'll have to save before opening the chest and reload, reopen to be sure to get one. If you're not in to that then you can buy a kama or a Wakizashi in the house of dragon.

The no-dachi of winter works. That's what I used my last time through the game.

My best combo has been the emerald greatsword and the Katana of the sun
(I also had the No-dachi of winter and the Katana of the void in my last game but that froze enemies and made a lot of noise!)
I suggest anyone interested in high melee firepower should try a character with high ninjitsu and high athletics and do a flying multi-kick and kill a rock-chunnler in 1 attack (or a dragon in less than a minute!)
just amazing damage ... jump and click rapidly... I'm really impressed!
