What the the RPG elements in DL you enjoy the most?

Post by William Bobo »

I haven't yet plunked down my $50 to buy this game but after hanging out here in the forum, especially looking at character screen-shots, I'm just about ready to break down and buy it, even through Oblivion will be out soon.

I've played just about every PC RPG since Wasteland (in full CGA color LOL) and Might and Magic 2, so I'm familiar with RPG games.

Since most people playing this game seem to be having fun, despite the bugs, what are your favorite elements of the game? Game play, character advancement, exploration, trade, etc.?

My favorite thing about the game, is that no matter what, you can try to do anything, just like real life....A mage can pickup a heavy weapon and armor despite it's penalties; a priest can try to pick a lock (with or without hope), and a fighter can attempt to cast the spells only the most powerful of wizards dare try........granted yes, you'll be better at certain things than others depending on your choices, butyou can still try to dabble in "forbidden" areas (as defined by most RPG's), makes it more true-to-life I think. I think that might be the main reason people keep coming back for more....to see how far they can push an "archetype" if everybody will forgive me for speaking for them

What I like

I agree with the elements Goth describes. This was my first experience with a 3rd person perspective RPG and I thought that was really cool. I've played BG, BGII, IWD, IWDII so I was used to that style and didn't believe it could be topped. I was wrong. This perspective and the concentration on a single character is a blast.

what I like best...

I am most impressed with the fighting style - letting me create my own "habits" - cast a spell... block with shield... hack and slash a while... (run away if necessary) etc... to make my strategy very personal... I can vary my attacks and defense to each and every encounter! (at first I hated the random spawning... but now... it is nice not to have to walk through dead areas...

Things i like ;)
1. The instantaneous toe to toe action
2. The graphic
3. Variety of class and no restriction on the dual class
4. The way spell is cast

As to the things i don't like, its already all over the forum, no need to mention further.
