Party formations

Post by Mistress Denna »

Hey y'all,

waht do you think is the best party formation?

I used Yoshimo/Imoen, Jaheira, Minsc, Aerie and Mazzy, plus a fighter as main.
Now I'm replaying in multiplayer mode with a Wizardslayer main, an Archer, a Mage, a Swashbuckler, a Cleric and a Monk.

On a side note: how about BG I? I had the same fighter as main, Jaheira and Khalid, Branwen, Imoen and Kivan. (I tell ya, Sarevok is a lot more challenging withhout a mage..)

Me (a half-elf sorcerer at level 17)
Jaheira
Minsc
Aerie
Viconia
And Yoshimo/Imoen

I seldom play without Korgan, Viconia, Jan and Edwin. In my current game I've added Jaheira and play a half-elven Bard (true class) myself.

This topic has been up a few times but it is interesting. There are a lot of different opinions. Also depending on good or bad alg. fighter or mage supporter.
I take that your party is good. You don't have a lot of mage-power but you can do without. the best good party IMDO: Minsc, Keldorn (not good when you get him but with items he can be kicka$$ mean)Jaheira, Aerie (SOME don't like her) Nalia/Iomen (doesn't matter that much whom you pick)+ you

evil alg.: Korgan, Minsc(can live in an evil party as well) Viconia (damn good), Jan (weak but knows a lot of "tricks" and comes in handy)Edwin (a hell of a spellcaster, a bit arrogant though)

Well, my problem is, I don't like to give people the boot. By the time I met Keldorn my party was well-established, so I couldn't take him along. I did consider taking Korgan (if only for the quest), but I since he's evil he was definitely out. (it's a ROLEPLAYING game after all..)

BTW in case you're wondering: no, I didn't do the Planar Sphere Quest either; I'd already picked up Mazzy by the time I met Valygar and I didn't even know his body would suffice to enter the Sphere..

And on the mage-power issue: Having Imoen back I let her cast most of the preparation spells (Haste, Prot. fom Evil etc.), and during combat Aerie - equipped with the Robe of Vecna - wreaked havoc.
And with - again - Aerie, Jaheira and even Minsc packing some priest spells I was pretty well covered on the Deific front too.
As for sheer hacking power, Mazzy's 5 slots in short bow (plus bracers of Archery), Aerie's sling of Everard and Minsc's Elven Court bow took care of ranged combat. I usually kept Jaheira out of the heat to stand ready when someone needed healing. Imoen usually got in a few Magic missiles before taking up her short bow while I stormed forward myself with the Warblade (maxed out in two-handed sword and the matching style).

Nah, just never occurred to me. And besides, dualling would've left me without a thief for too long, I think..
