Wand of Cloudkill !!!

Post by The_Pope »

Is it just me or does this thing kill everything? I mean, 50 charges for about 7000 gp? I'll take it!
Am I the only one who uses this item frequently?

Well, if you don't tell me wherer to find it you will.
I'm looking for one. cuz I'm planning on killing some dragons. All I have is a wand with 1 charge. Do you perhaps now a way to add more charges?

I know 2 locations for sure so far.
In Atkathla, Waukeen's Promenade: Spell Store, or the guy next to it, whatever.
Another in either Druid Grove or Trademeet. I know I bought it from a merchant in Trademeet, but I think I had already sold it to him when it was almost out of charges.

Anyway, thanks to this last one, I've found a way to recharge them. Sell it, then buy it back again. This probably only works if there are still quite a bit charges on it (about 20), otherwise it won't be recharged.

You can recharge at any time even if there's only one charge left. The regular merchants recharge 20.The blackmarkets and thieve's guild recharge 50.

The best guy I found for recharging wands is Roger the Fence in the Athkatla sewers. He is located at the Southern T. He charges up the wands to 50 and he is blind as a bat so you can steal em right back Image
I think I sold and stole 4 wands in a row without getting caught.

Not too shabby...make a little $$ and then get your wands back with 50 charges. He only put 10 on my Rod of resurrection though....

The_Pope: If you read the description of the Cloudkill spell, you'll see that it automatically slays all creatures of 4 hit dice or less (I forgot if a saving throw is needed, or whether that came with other, higher hit dice numbers).

Since for instance Umber Hulks are 4-hit dice creatures, they are slain right away with a Cloudkill. Handy for sifting them out among, say, Mind Flayers.

I knew that!

Another question:
Does Magic Resistance stop Cloudkill?

It depends on how high the resistance is. My monk has 54% resistance and can walk through a cloudkill, um, cloud.

Depends I guess. I only tried it on Firkraag and mid-way through the second casting he would cast heal and fully restore himself. Not sure how many casts of that he has but I tried at least three wands on him and he healed three times.

one Cloud Kill is way too slow for a dragon, cast multiple and it works...but this tactic is really cheesy and cowardly, don't use it anyway

You used 3 full wands? Or just 3 charges?
Well, a great tactic is placing your mage just out of the dragon's sight and bombard him like hell! Yee-haw!

Three wands, but they had far less casts than I thought. I was just trying it out for the heck of it and was creating the wands. Didn't try hitting him with all three at once, but I've since handed him his own ass, so it was worth it to wait until I was stronger. Much more invigorating to kill him without cheating.

I believe Elenias means have three people cast it at the same time. Image

I wonder how many charges one of these wands has when finding them.
5?
I know I sold the first one I found (Irenicus' dungeon) and bought it back a whole while later.

So by that train of thought Weasel, if you line three people up and all three cast cloudkill at, say, Firkraag he should be dead in no time? Why would that work over just having one character cast it three times from three separate wands?

Why not just cast Cloudkill 3 different times from the same wand??? Much easier than filling up all your slots carrying duplicate wands. Image
