Item List Completed_sorted Alphabetically

I got some requests for the list of items in Dungeon Lords sorted
alphabetically by 'Item Name'. I had finished the document last
week and was going to post it when I realized that I had not
sorted the Items by name before I put them in the Word document.
:o I could not extract the items from the document so I would have
to start from scratch. :eek:

I know a female who does my file sorts for me as she has Excel but
she is often out of town for periods of time. She had sorted that Item
List for me and I um, I umm, I think I saved my unsorted list right over
her beautiful sorted list. I'm now looking for a place to hide for a year
or so, any takers(?) ( lol ).

I had just posted the Hex sorted list and I thought (there is no smilie
for this one) 'oh ****' you have to sort it manually. I got a PM from a
member asking about a list sorted by item name and I mentioned that
I had been working on one but had screwed up royally. That member
came to my rescue and sorted the file and presented me with it in I
think three different formats.

The document is done using Microsoft Word and has to be uploaded as
a .ZIP file as that is the only way I could think of shrinking this 435KB
size file to upload it. The file is attached and I know you will find it as
useful as I have. I have a printout copy of both the Hex and the Alpha
versions on my computer desk which works out nice when working on
save games.

* The last 2 sets of 4 *s are not even swear words they are in fact
two of the better words in the English language. They were when I
typed in the asterisks the words 'love' and 'hope'!!

hex editor

Ok, I admit I am a computer weakling... but what is a hex-editor and how does one work... say, I have looked everywhere for a certain item and I would like to "hex" it to me... how do you do that? or is it one of those "if you have to ask, then never mind" deals? :confused:

Hex editors convert decimal 0-15 to hexadecimal (base 16)

Hi Damn Snakes! thanks for the repsonse.

First I appreciate your name and it also goes for bats, rates and bees. The
best cheap spell for them is an Arcane spell 'Shrieking Star' [ Hurls forth a
shrieking disc of firey sparks that does low damage to 'any' monsters it
passes near ]. The spells does damage to more than monster though it may
seem weak it is very effective just keep stepping backwords and casting the
spell. Voila, no more vermin!!! Buy plenty of copies of this spell as I found it
to be the best way to handle theses pests because a bow is really useless in
this game and it saves your better spells.

Hexadecimal and Hex Editors:

I don't know if you are at all familiar with hexadecimal (base 16 ) math but
you are familiar with decimal (base 10).

Decimal to 16:

[ 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16 ]

Hexadecimal to 16:

[ 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,A,B,C,D,E,F,10 ]

Here is an example of hex and how it is displayed in an editor:

One billion is 1,000,000,000 decimal(d) and is represented in hex(h) as
3B9ACA00(h) base 16. One billion when displayed in an editor will look like
this showing the h# = 00CA 9A3B (00CA9A3B).


Hex Editors will display one of your save games in hexadecimal so that you
can read and edit that save game. I am providing a link to a thread on the
forum and would recommend that you look at posts 17 to 22 on that thread.

The link shows how to use a hex editor and where to get one. The one that
I like cost between $30 and $40 sotake a look at the posts and let me know
if it makes any sense to you.

There is another way!

Damn Snakes, thanks for the reply.

If you know someone who has a Hex Editor and knows how
to use it you could always ask them to add the item.

Preferably someone you know and trust but before emailing
your save game make a special copy of it in a labeled folder
in your save game folder. You just create a new folder and
give it a meaningful name so you know what it is.

They will need to know your characters name (exact spelling)
including any character that is capitalized and the exact name
of the item. You can look it up in the first post by me in this
thread. They will also need to know the exact name of the
item in your equipment inventory that you want to swap out
for the new item. It is best to swap a weapon with a weapon
etc. but that is not necessary. I would also suggest that you
equip the item you want to swap out because you can have
multiple copies of that same item and it could be in your junk
tab.

hex editing

im new in hex editing but so far, im capable of changing my attribs ( agi, strength...)

wat i wana know is how i can change my items...

i spent hours trying to search for the address but i cant find it, can you help me?

Don't search for the address...search for item

Hi caverncrow, thanks for the response.

If I understand your question right you are searching for the address in order
to change items. You have to search for the items hex value which you can
get from the alphabetically sorted item list. I would suggest looking at posts
numbers 1 and 4 in this thread.

Post #1 is the Item List and in Post #4 I give a little explanation the hexa-
decimal numbering system and an example of how the number one billion
1,000,000,000 decimal(d) is displayed in hex and the way it is displayed in
your save game file ( very important: notice the difference in how it
is actually represented in hex(h) and how it is displayed in your save game ).
The displayed value is the exact reverse of the hex value for every two
characters of the hex value.

You also need to read the post #20 at the link below as it shows an example
of finding and replacing an item in your inventory. Here is the link:

I would suggest that you make a copy of one of your old save games and
then use that old save game to practice with until you are comfortable with
how items are displayed in your save game and and how to change the
durability (fix your favorite shield), the number of copies of an item you have
or the max number of spells of one type you have that renew when resting
and the number of those spells you currently have available without resting.

I think I need to add an attachment to Post #1 on this thread with examples
of how different items are displayed in a save game and also how if you are
changing an items value the display in you save game should look when done
correctly and how it might look if done incorrectly. I have a document that I
used for exactly that purpose as I had to remember how to work with hex
numbers after over 25 years of not working with hexadecimal.

A lot of thanks to you kel. I was using a hex editor that edits while the game runs. I was not so familiar with the saved games hex editor...

i gez i just have to fiddle around with this enw hex editor ( hex workshop ). I hope this is the one your using or at least somewhat similar...

caverncrow, thanks for the response.

The Hex Editor I use is Hex Workshop v4.2 ( actually v4.2.3.0 ).

You can get it from Breakpoint Software and you can download a trial version
from http://www.tucows.com which is a good site or I think you can also get
it from http://www.bpsoft.com. I believe both have a 30 day free trial after
which the program won't work or will take you to a web site where you can
purchase it.

hey Kel. thanks for the info. i'm using HEdit which was recommended by another member. i have a radiant sword which i wanted to replace with a bladerelic. so i searched the hex value and found it. then i clicked on the hex value and changed it to the value of the bladerelic. when i played my game, the bladerelic was not there and i still had my radiant sword.. i don't know what to do?

Hi blacklord, thanks for your response.

I am not sure what 'bladerelic' you were trying to add but it is possible that it doesn't exist in the game. There are alot of items in the list that don't work or don't exist.

I don't know much about your HEdit program that you are using as most sites recommended Hex Workshop. I don't have the game on my system anymore but if you want I can try and do it for you.

The two weapons I used in the order I used them were 1) The Katana of the Sun and 2) the Scepter of Shadows. The scepter was especially effective as it had the ability to hit enemies at a distance and no one seem immune to it's effects.

If you want me to try send me a PM and I will provide you with a temporary email address. I would like a copy of the save game before you tried it and the copy of the save game after you had tried your edit. I might be able to figure out what you are doing wrong.

Umm kel, For me your item list turned out into a bunch of rectangle things..not writing. It was opened into microsoft word but wont do anything its just rectangles and jiberish. Help?

Yes Kel ! The BladeRelic exists !

I got the Bladerelic of night on my first game. In the Temple of Souls, in a chest after I killed the big boss. The one you use the demon key to free him.

If I remember well, it's not a heavy weapon but was very efficient! ;)

It did. I wrote it using Microsoft Word v10.0.6764.0 which is not as far as I know a version much different than any others out there and I believe that they are pretty backward compatible. This computer is running XP Home edition. I am temporarily clueless and I sure hope I don't remain this way for long.

I might have written that .doc file on my old computer to my right which feels very ignored for the last four months or so. That computer is running Windows 98SE and I have no clue ( dxxn cluelessness again ) which version of Word it is running.

I will check the file out and make sure it has not become corrupted. I would appreciate it if you would save a copy of how it turned out for you and then PM me. I'll give you an email address that you can send it to.

OK, I'm back and I saved it to my desktop and extracted the .zip file to my desktop. I clicked on it and it opened in Word and was ok. I zipped the Word document with WinRAR because it was too big to upload and I don't know if the program you are using to unzip it could possibly be having problems with because of that. This is the first I have heard of someone having trouble with the file.

The first thing I would do is to try again. I would right click on the file name and select 'save as' and save it to my desktop. Then try to unzip to your desktop and click on the Word document and see if you get the same results.

If you do get the same results I would suggest visiting [color="Red"][url="http://www.tucows.com"]http://www.tucows.com[/url][/COLOR.

You can download a 30 day trial for free of WinRAR v4.0 or newer and extract the files using it and see what happens. I have heard of some incompatibilities between certain programs for unzipping files. I do not know that this is the case this time but as it is a free trial I think the attempt is worth it. I would also suggest you save the list if it is okay with your version of MS Word.

I will do some searching on this and see if I can find out why it happened this time. Let me know what results you have by sending me a PM. My version of Word is 'language neutral' and I am not sure what language you are using which might (??) cause a problem.

Hi lukyPsYcHo9, thanks for the response.

I never thought of changing classes. I have finished the game and no longer have it on my computer so I don't have any save files to look it up in.

I'm not sure what effect that would have if you just changed classes in a save file as there are more things dependent on your class than any of your characters stats. I would actually recommend going back and starting over and if you do I would suggest you get your character to level 9 before entering Fargrove as that will help your character later on.

Unfortunately, I haven't been much help but I wish you luck with your character.

Has anyone had time to verify which values are correct? I have not had time to investigate further...Thanks a million Kel and George! These lists have been very helpful in coding the editors. Attached is a sortable/filterable excel version of the list with most categories from the game too. Atleast, I believe that the categories are correct. Let me know if you see any errors.
