Alright, I tried it and couldn't get it to work.

I've made a handy illustration to make sure we're talking about the same thing :p

I could be wrong but it looks like your trying to get to the thrid opening before you jump to the second. You need to get to the opening with the elf first, run back into the alcove and step on the rune then you jump to the opening to the west, run back into the alcove and step on a rune and then lastly jump to the opening to the north. Each time you step on a rune the pilars raise and lower so you can make the jumps. D

Looks like your route needs work

It looks like you've encountered each elf in order, but you're trying the wrong route to the third elf. You should jump from the second alcove East, straight to the center of the room (on top of pillars) and then North to the last alcove. The jumps from the center to the North alcove should increase in height and you may end up grabbing the edge and hoisting yourself up. Make sure you've stepped on the runes in each alcove to get the pillars to move.

Thanks ferncliff

You're right, ferncliff. I never killed that guy so I encounted him at each alcove. Thanks for the memory jog.

Ohhh, I didn't realize that stepping on those runes changes the height. I didn't step on the second one, so I'll try that now and get back to you, thanks :)

Good luck

The runes are key in this game. Sometimes you just step on them, sometimes you have to press 'SHIFT' on them. Don't be afraid to use the walkthroughs provided by this site. (I couldn't have finished or had such a blast without this site.)

Press shift a bunch while running over them too, together it worked for me.

Anyways, new problem. I'm in the room that's a big circle, and there are 3 high platforms. Ther's some wizard up there, and guys keep spawning non-stop. What am I supposed to do? I can't find a way up to the platforms, and the guys won't stop coming.

Help please!!

Or redirect me to the walkthrough for this (I couldn't find it)

EDIT: Never mind, I found the walkthrough and solved my problem.

Walkthroughs are a key ingredient to success

The Trial of the Ancient Elders is in Arindale. This is the link:
http://www.gamebanshee.com/dungeonlords ... elders.php
There's a map, helpful hints, treasure locations, etc.
The room you're in is especially difficult. DON'T SAVE INSIDE THE ROOM! This room has a bug that will not let you complete the task if you save while you're inside.
My only advice:
Save before entering
Fight like mad
Drink lots of Heal potions
Eventually they'll let you out.

First Trial of Ancient Elders - Abandon It?

It seems as though the character I've built cannot jump to the third alcove. The pillar just one away from the last before the alcove landing seems too high for this character. I've tried more than forty attempts now. I'm wondering what the consequence of not completing the trials would be. Is this a gamebreaker for this character? Any thoughts or helps or cheats or program corruptions or demonic wizardry or editings or something to fix this please?

Those pillars are a pain, I had trouble with them too. Stand on the edge and just jump forward. I use the zero on my keypad for jumping as it is right next to the arrow keys, and holding down the zero and the forward arrow seems to do the trick.

As for not completing the trial being a game breaker, I tend to think it is...If you did not, you wouldn't be able to get back into Fargrove to complete the tasks you need to do.

The only other alternative I can think is for you to check the editor thread (the sticky at the top of the page). I know you can edit your position with the editor using locations. I believe another member posted a bunch of locations on the last page of the thread. If you were able to edit yourself into a new postiion within the Hall of Lords, then you could proceed.

I have no idea how that would work, I have only used the editor to give myself a couple of spellbooks and a winter shuriken.

Did you step on the pressure plates in the first two alcoves only once each? IIRC, the pressure plates are toggles, and so if you, say, stepped on the second one twice, it would lower and then re-raise a column. Also, have you patched your game?

Elders Trial Dilemma

Should I understand that if the pillar apears to have been lowered, then it may not actually be lowered? The graphic doesn't match the settings, because I've stepped on the first two many, many times and have never seen them raise back up. I watched them lower however when I first stepped on the blue buttons in the first and second alcoves. I thought if I would try raising them and lowering them again, that they might lower to a slightly different position each time and then finally I would be able to jump,... but I've never seen them raise back up.
If there are any patches available for the CE, I've never been able to find any. I can't seem to figure that out either???
I'm going back and recheck all these suggestions... that's after more than four hundred attempts now. I really appreciate all these responses. You're all very wonderful to offer consolation. I'm also wondering if I can copy over to a better player, have them jump this character, then return the saved game. Does something like that work?

Well, that last pillar is somewhat deceiving, it looks quite tall but it is jumpable.

You aren't getting anything wrong re: patches for the CE, there aren't any. Lots of folks still have older editions of the game (1.1 or 1.3) which were significantly buggier, hence the suggestion to patch the game. Since you have the CE, then you have the latest edition.

If you are fed up with trying, send me a PM, so we can exchange emails (that is the only way to get the save game) and I will try to make the jump for you...I get very frustrated with that part as well, but my boyfriend is quite good at it.

MingDragon,

You do have at least one point in athletics, correct? I've never tried it without
at least one level in athletics. so just thought I'd ask.
