~*Spoilers*~ Shortcuts And Secrets

Post by CaptRory »

After playing through the game a couple times you are bound to discover some interesting tidbits. Here are some I discovered that I've never seen mentioned.

The Ghost Haunts at Midnight: When you move up the staircase of the hotel it collapses sending you into the basement. This past game I managed to jump as the staircase gave way beneath me and landed on the other side of the gap. I skipped the entire basement section of the hotel. Evidently that entire section of the Haunted Hotel scene revolves around getting back to the main part of the hotel.

Italian Dinner: Some of the walls open up and lead to a series of secret passages. Those mirrors you see hanging all over the place are actually one way mirrors and you can watch the party from the other side of them.

In the Skyline Apartments there is a ventilation shaft you can use to move between floors. If the elevator in your game is bugged you can use the ventilation system to bypass it. Also, if you have the apartment there you can use the elevator to steal some of the furniture from the lobby and the other apartments to use in yours.

Fun With Pestilence: When you reach the HQ of the plague cult and are confronted with swarms of zombies keep an eye out to the right. There are some boards you can move that allow you to pass between the walls and bypass a section of the charnel madhouse.

I'm interested in seeing what the community has to add. I'd like to know what I've missed seeing so far.

I must admit, this one came in very handy, but it wasn't until my third run-through that I discovered it.

I have also noticed, that while completing the Dr. Grout mission: after you are able to gain access to the library (upstairs), if your Inspection is high enough, you will notice a book on the bookcase to the left of the three wall sconce candlesticks. You may activate that book, in lieu of the three candle stick puzzle, to open the hidden passage below.

I'm at that point in the game now, I'm going to have to look out for that. Thanks!

I also found something (for the first time) whilst doing the Society of Leopold quest:

When you enter the cavern where Ash is being held, you can dive in the water and find a tunnel that you can swim along, and end up in the large main cavern, where the boat resides. There are two ladders; one near the pier, and another on the far wall that is nearer the doorway to Bach.

I have done this quest many times, but was hesitant to jump in the water, as it was murky and I thought it might bring my final death. Little did I know I would find a new shortcut.

That's great to know. I wish I'd heard about it yesterday when I was doing that quest.

In the sewers after the Kings Way mansion leg of the quest: When you work all the way to the part where the metal walkway gives way and you land in the water with the electricity (where you need to work the pump controls to fill/empty the resevoir) you can jump as the floor gives way and clear the gap. It saves a lot of headache if you pull it off. You'll want to shoot the critters to death before doing it though. It'd be a pain to leap the gap only to get knocked off into the water anyway.
