Just read the message and.. when you are supposer to free the prisoners, you ARN'T suposed to go in the lad (DON'T GO IN LAB)!!
there is a thik way around the lab, go around, then you will see a door on a wall opposed to the lab, and with some stairs that goes up, (it will lead in the same map to where you enter the asylum the first time) except that this time, you'll have to fight a guy to get the key) after, once the prisonner are free, your are teleported into the lab... you don't even have to make your way in it...
Bug in escaping the Asylum?
Go to My computer;select which drive you put the game in;Next select Program files;then Black Isle; You will see cache;select it;click data;It should show (area this that) select all and delete.Make sure you just delete the stuff in the data file.

To any who thought he might have entered the lab ... this does definitely NOT work.
Take one step into the lab, and you're TOAST! Irenicus says he has had enough of you, cast a spell, and kill your entire party (including your main!) in a single round. The event is scripted, and you can't do ANYTHING to prevent this. Trust me, I've had it happen to me TWICE (first by accident, then I tried sneaking a Thief in ... didn't work )

I don't know if this helps those who were in the same predicament as I was, but here goes. After arriving at the prison level, you can see Lank the Monk out side from where you were. Try to immediately initiate the conversation with him, if you are too slow Irenicus will appear and put you back in the glass tubes (again) and you will be in the endless loop.
If you are fast enough (the boot of speed sure helps), you will be initiating the conversation before Irenicus fully appears and starts the conversation before you could talk to Lank. However, thru this way you would not be able to kill Lank (should you wish to), but at least you could proceed from this point onwards.
Like I have said, it might be different for other people but it took me 10 tries to finally get talk to Lank first.
To Thomas and Weasel, regarding deleting the cache folder files, unfortunately it did not work.

This is really funny... when i went up the stairs, the dialogue with Lank initiated immediately. no Irenicus appeared, no nothing... dunno if it is the rule, or there is something funny going on... PLUS, i killed the mf (Lank) by simply driving the dialogue that way. The prisoners came out anyway
When my second party (i am playing two games in the same time) reaches there, i will be able to see what will happen.
