Vampire Bloodlines Mods

Post by showoffjp »

Has anyone found a page with any good mods or any good mods in the first place? I have now beaten the game twice, and want to see what else there is to offer(if anything) in the modding buisness to see if I want to replay it again. Help me out here if there is...Thanks!

http://www.planetvampire.com is basically the home of Vampire Modding today. What I've seen from them is mostly reskins at this point-- replace the ugly hooker with a reskin of Jeanette (very worthwhile, but you have to dig around in that forum to find it), a few reskins of Heather, and actually a new clan-- Assamite (no new models, and just old disciplines, but in a new combination). That site also has info on how to mod weapons and such... I've seen some people change weaponry like the .38 to fire more like the McLusky so that the game is more of a FPS, while changing other stuff to keep balance. That's all I can think of right now, go explore there and have fun.

thanks for the mod list, but most of the skin mods are made by guys that have a bit too much time on their hands...amoung other things
thanks for the mod list, but most of the skin mods are made by guys that have a bit too much time on their hands...amoung other things
That's to be expected given the fact that so far it's the first wave of skins. People need to get their... frustrations... out of the way before they start producing some quality content. Or something... I think it's icky too.

Any way's I cant wait untill there's some good tutorials out there as to how to skin in this game... I had TONS of fun skinning and hex editing new characters into freedom force and I already have several ideas regarding vampire designs I want to do, such as some more "metal" inspired nosferatu and hopefully some more "ethnic" vampires... I mean its California! Not everyone looks like a suburbia goth. I dont know how tough this will be (the textures are pretty impressive and probably light years ahead of what Im used to in freedom force) but I cant wait.

Btw... I noticed that in the game the "clans" and "gender" are drop menus... will it be possible to add aditional clans and more model posibilities such as male1 or female1 without replacing stuff? It's going to be fun a few months from now when people really start to realize what can be done with this engine. Also I cant wait to see some more official patches... I mean seriosly I would of gladly waited another month for this game if they would of tested it a few more times and worked some kinks out of it.

Sorry for the rant... its my first post after lurking for a while so I had a lot built up.

Adding a custom clan or tweaking the existing ones is quite easy. Same goes for weapon stats and quest dialogues.

AS for the modelling, unless someone figures out how to read and write in the proprietary file format, we're stuck with swapping one model with another

Simple changes are real easy. Modifying items and such only requires tinkering with some text. You'll need the unpacking tool though. Example: On my version I changed the cost of ammunition for the weaker firearms so they'd be worth using. In "Classic" the .38 is worthless, it is completely without worth. In my game the ammunition costs $1 for 6 so up until I run out of inventory space I keep it around as a tool more then a weapon. Why shoot a window out with expensive magnum rounds when you can fire 6 for a dollar of the weak stuff. I also reduced the cost of the regular shotgun ammo, even into the end game that piece of hardware is my workhorse though it is significantly less useful then the Steyr Aug or Magnum. The same goes for the moderate weapons, the Brokk 17C as an example. It's mediocre: There's no reason to spend an arm and a leg for mediocre firearm ammo.

I'm rambling again. Anyway, my point was it is very, very easy to tinker with items if you're so inclined.

Cool, thanks.

Say, what do I need to unpack?

I haven't done any tinkering in several months; just unpack everything and open up files til you find the references you want.
