Am having difficulties playing game on a Win 98 Athlon 750 mhz system with 256 meg memory and ample hard disc space.

Game randomly either freezes, shells out to windows or plays OK but refuses to allow loading of previously visited areas and then crashes.

Any ideas?

If this is the problem where the game disappears and your desktop appears, I had the same problem. It happened to me whenever a movie started. It IS because of the via apollo 133 chipset. I fixed the problem by disabling the movies in the baldur.ini file. Under Program Options, type in Disable Movies=1 and eliminate any other lines which enable the movies. You don't get to see the movies, but at least you don't constantly crash.
