Assertion failure in Nashkel Mines

Post by dragon wench »

I was about to go into the third (I think) level of the Nashkel mines. My game autosaved as normal and was about to load the area when it crashed. I had the following error message pop up, even after trying to reload several times:

An Assertion Failed in D:\DevBaldur\Obj Creature.cpp at line number 10806

I'm assuming a creature or NPC that is supposed to be here is not for some reason.... Perhaps because of a mod or me having screwed up in installing a mod
(I'm using BG 1 Adventures and the more recent Weidu version of Dark Side of the Sword Coast)

Anyway, I'd appreciate any suggestions.
I'm considering backing up my save game folder and reinstalling everything. Thoughts?
Or is there anyway to fix whatever is causing my problem?

I'm guessing it has something to do with the Adventures mod, or maybe Adventures and DSotSC don't mix. I've played DSotSC and although there were some small bugs, this problem never happened in my game.

Maybe I'll uninstall Adventures (since it doesn't really add all that much anyway), and then back up my saves, after which I'll reinstall the game with DSotSC. I did install the version of Adventures that is apparently compatible with Dark Side, but who knows..
I also did something stupid during DSotSC installation, likely due to too much experience installing Morrowind mods manually  I dumped the Sounds folder over the Sounds folder already in my main BG1 folder. I had actually read the readme first, but I forgot the part about where to put "Sounds."
I had thought it would be okay, and that maybe it just added additional sound files to the folder, but it is possible it also replaced some...

Yes, I know, very probably 'mea culpa' :o

I guess it wasn't a wise idea to have multiple mods installed at the same time
The problem is that the people with the most ridiculous ideas are always the people who are most certain of them.

I have successfully run a whole host of mods simultaneously in both BG2 and Morrowind.
Furthermore, I was very careful to install the version of BG Adventures that was stated as compatible with Dark Side of the Sword Coast.

@Luis,
Hmm, okay, I wasn't aware that the BG1 engine was quite that unstable. I'll give your suggestion a shot

I tried to heavily modify BG only once, and as the engine is far more bugged than SoA's one I had many troubles. In the end I started using only some bugfixes. I think the original game is good enough as it is, but it'd be good to identify this problem.

What about re installing the mods in order and trying to test it DW? You have the save games after all.
Flesh to stone ain't permanent, it seems.

I had a similar problem whwn trying to get to Larswood. The game crashed because of a cool item (robe for magician 15% magic resistant and extra 1st and 2nd spell). When I dumped the item I colud go to Larswood. btw I have installed the same mods as you.

I had a similar problem when no mods were added. It would almost be loaded then would just stop. In case it was a slow load, I left it once for an hour. Pffft, nothing happened.
