Hello all,
I know this game has numerouse bugs, I am unable to get my character to move when I load up my saved game on Malachor V. He's just stuck in one place and when I do get him to move he spins a bit and while move to a far corner of the screen without moving his legs. Very slo-mo like. I've reduced my graphics settings as well and I have the current patch. Other saved games from earlier parts of the game seem to work ok. Its just since I've been on Malachor V.
Malachor V Bug? Character is stuck

I know that once I got stuck to a wall on the first planet... well, asteroid. Eventually it let me free, and my character ran all over the place, since I had been trying to get him to move for a while. Eventually, he steadied himself, and I could continue.
This sounds like a bug which could end the game for you. Several times I have come across bugs that actually ended the game, such as a door locking, when it should remain open, and the only way to finish the game is to continue.
I'll run a quick search, but I have a feeling that I may not get anything from it. If someone does not pop up with a tech solution or a patch fairly soon, I would recommend restarting from another save point. If the bug occurs when you reach this point again... reinstall the game, then start from your save point again.

Good thing that saved games carry through installations and uninstallations. Although before totally giving up on it, I would check around here and make sure noe one has anything to add.
Hope you stay around a while.

do you have it on PC or Xbox?
if PC, then check your video setting. those have a lot to do with the lag you'll often find in the game, especially with what you described.

Yeah, I suffer from this a lot. It seems to be a response to your graphics card or processor not being up to the job. The minimum specs and supported video card list are WAY optimistic; my PC is within specs but I get this bug _everywhere_, though I find the Jekk Jekk Tarr, Dantooine plains and Malachor V the worst. I couldn't find anyone who could help me, and it took me weeks of reloading to work out the workaround...
However, fret not. It _is_ possible to complete the game, with patience. Here's the secret:
1)Save your game. Close KOTOR2 completely. Start KOTOR2 again. Reload ( DON'T TOUCH THE FORWARD OR BACK KEY (or the strafe)! This seems to be what triggers the bug, using those keys when your frame rate is too low.
2) Use the 'revolve' keys (A or D default) to turn round on the spot. You'll probably notice that you get a much higher frame rate when you are facing one way than others. Note this direction.
3) Turn to face this direction. You will find that you can use the movement keys safely AS LONG AS you don't turn round! Keep facing that direction! (use the strafe keys to move to the side).
4) As you move, keep an eye on the frame rate. If it starts to slow down, repeat the turning on the spot exercise to find a new 'best direction to face'.
Other points to note: when you are 'stuck' you can sometimes free yourself by clicking on a enemy, door, container etc. Your character will then unstick and move to that object. Doesn't help much on Malachor, unfortuntely...
Sometimes you can free yourself by changing to a new lead member of the party (again, no help on Malachor)
Also (fairly obviously!) make sure your resolution is turned down as low as poss. , your shadows are off, your texture pack is low and all that stuff.

here's a fix for the lag you mentioned, for PC users...
Edit the "swkotor2.ini" file- Fixes the Dantooine and other area Lag Issues
This edit is no longer required for most ATI users since the Catalyst 5.4 drivers have fixed the Dantooine Lag issue. However, I still recommend this step since the 5.4 drivers still don't give you the best performance on Dantooine.
Also, if you are still having problems with Dantooine, then this step is not optional. You will need to take this step to fix the problem.
First, figure out where the .ini is installed. Default is "C:\Program Files\Lucasarts\swkotor2\swkotor2.ini". If its not in that location, then your going to have to do some searching around on the hard drive a bit.
When you find it, just double-click on the file to open it in Notepad.
Scroll down the file until you find the Graphics Options
Under the last line, add "Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1", without the quotes.
Goto File, then Save.

good advice
yep, i have that problem in several places on dantooine.... its really annoying but i found that i could partially avoid it by trying to hug up to the perimiters of that area to get to my destination or just avoid the section. if you cant, just keep making your character run and eventually youll get released usually miles from where you started. if you have other party members switch characters when it is happening. it usually works. good luck!
