How can you get an effective warrior/ arcane spellcaster build in this game?
the armor restrictions basically make it imposible to have a decent tank who can cast.
how can you make an effective spellsword?

I think it's more fun to have tanks and wizards separate. You get to develope very powerful characters that way. Why would you want a warrior/spellcaster that can't do anything well? Unless you are only using one or two characters. Is that what you're doing? But I know everyone doesn't play the game the same way I do...

The main thing you have to do to make an effective spell sword character is lose the armor-and-weapon paradigms.
You don't need heavy armor. You gain better armor class with no armor (or a certain late-in-the-game armor). If you add a few fighter levels to a mage, or a few mage levels to a fighter, then you have a very effective spell sword. Or you could just make a bard. The spells you should get are mostly defensive buffs.
