Unexpected Powerhouse Characters

Have you ever created a character because you have not played a particular class before and you just want to try something different.. only to discover that the said PC defies all of your expectations and becomes one of the most powerful you have ever tried?

I have had such an experience with my recent game wherein I created a Skald. I had never before played a bard, but I thought it would be fun to roleplay, and I had heard the stronghold quests were fun..
This has certainly been the case, but I really was not expecting to rip through enemies like a small tornado! :speech:

I was one of those people who figured the bard was just a watered down fighter/mage, but I've done a complete about face.
In a recent difficult battle I had a simulacrum (Vhailor's Helm+UAI) who was busy dealing damage with a second Carsomyr, and I also cast misled, which allowed another duplicate skald to simply sing.. It was a slaughter
And then there are spike traps...

I really was not anticipating a bard to be quite as deadly...

Similar experiences, no matter the class?

I thought a F/M/C would be too far behind the rest of the party because of being triple multiclassed, but he was never far behind on the power scale, and turned out to easily be the most powerful character in the party.

I remember trying the Blade for the first time, I never thought of the bards as fighters or as mages but the Blade certainly surprised me with it's abilties. Defensive Spin is an excellent way to boost armour class and tank temporairly also long enough to cast a few spells in the midst of combat. Offensive Spin on the other hand is a freaking awesome way to use dual wielded weapons and cut through enemies.

Pickpocket although weaker is still more than sufficient to steal off people while bard song is a great way to upgrade the attacks of any archers employed to defeat certain trapped golems.

My favourite underestimated class is the Bounty Hunter by far, it gets less 5 skill points per level but already starts off with 25 additional points into traps. Additionally he gets Special Snares which are different to other snares in that they do splash damage, aren't placed but thrown! Ignore magic resistance and finally at max level don't even allow a save against the effects of maze.

One of the funnier things to do is to run out of view and throw a Special Snare and maze half your enemies, giving you time to waltz back and cut up what ever's left. Set some traps, sleep and then buff before they come back!

Blade, for me as well. I had Keldorn, Mazzy and Jaheira in that party... all quite powerful in their own right, but when I checked, my Blade got about 45% of the kills.
The reverse was true for my Undead Hunter, she was surpassed by Minsc and Anomen.
