My party(Neutral Good):
1. Human Sorcerer (St: 6, Dx: 12, Const: 18, Int: 10, Wis: 10, Cha: 18) -> Talker/Spellcaster
2. Dwarven Fighter (St: 18, Dx: 17, Const: 20, int: 10, Wis: 10, Cha: 1) -> Main Tank
3. Human Fighter (St: 18, Dx: 17, Const: 18, int 10, Wis: 10, Cha: 3) -> Main Tank
4. Drow Ranger (St: 16, Dx: 17, Const: 16, int: 10, Wis: 16, Cha: 5) -> Scout/Fighter (Stealth)
5. Human Rogue (St: 17, Dx: 18, Const: 18, int: 10, Wis: 10, Cha: 3) -> Scout/Assassin (Stealth, Backstab)
6. Human Cleric (St: 6, Dx: 10, Const: 18, int: 10, Wis: 18, Cha: 12) -> Healer
I'm not too fond of spellcasters so I chose only the necessary spellcasters.

Evil party - 4 people
Female Drow Monk(1)/rogue(1)/Priest of Bane(x)
Male Drow Rogue(2)/Wizard(x)
Drow Sorcerer (x)
Human Bard(11)/Druid(19)
Assorted alignments - 6 people
Deep Gnome everything (monk(1), fighter(2), rogue(2), priest(1), illusionist (x)) - decoy
Female drow fighter(4), wizard(5), priest(21)
Human bard(11), druid(19)
Male drow rogue(2 or 3)/wizard(x)
Human paladin(2)/sorcerer(x)
Drow sorcerer
I prefer Oghma or Lathander as my priest realms in the 6 person party, even though Bane would likely be better for the stat bonus. The bard is for bard songs only, and the druid is great for summons and barkskin. This is a high maintainance party, as you have to level up all the multi class characters in a certain order to gain maximum effectiveness for certain parts of the game (i.e. the female drow has to gain priest levels until resurrection, then add fighter/wizard). If you aren't level squatting effectively, this isn't a good power party at all.
The Silverdragon power party above works great as well, especially if you're using mods.

Cant say my party constist of uber-builds, but so far, it remains quite effective (not playing HoF):
* Aasimar Paladin(2) / Sorcerer(x) - Just the vanilla sorcerer build, nothing usual.
* Ghostwise Halfling Rogue(3) / Fighter(4) / Barbarian(x) - Ranged attacker with darts, since those benefit from a strength bonus (barbarian rage!). A human or half-orc would probably be more effective, but I like it the way it is - a thrower seems to be perfect for halflings and the little people also receive a bonus to thrown attacks. Can be used as a scout and emergency-tank.
* Human Rogue(3) / Fighter (4) / Barbarian (x) - Tank, lockpicker and dual-wielder. I like versatile chars and also wanted to include some Conan-esque char in my party.
* Human Fighter(4) / Monk(x) - Started out as an experiment but has become quite powerful. Uses one-handed weapons, shields and heavy armor. Yes, this does disable his monk unarmed attack bonus and speed, but not his other abilities. I guess that makes him a fighter with evasion, spellresistance and good overall saving throws. His BAB is almost equal to that of a pure fighter and he can use monk-specific items, like the bracers that grant an extra attack/round (works with weapons, too)
* Wildelf Cleric of Oghma(x) - Build as an archer (20 Dex, 18 Wis) and is very effective. With the right buffs, she can match any bow-fighters damage output. If not, she can use greater shout, symbol of hopelessness or wail of the banshee instead.

Aasimar Dwarf Paladin 2/Fighter X (all 2-handed weapons + Holy Avenger)
Human Monk 1/Paladin 1/Cleric of Illmater X (general Divine support, self-buffing undamagable tank in specific battles)
Human Rogue 1/Sorcerer X (Arcane caster + negotiation skills + alchemist)
Drow Fighter X/Rogue X (dedicated "sniper" build - bows/crossbows/slings - depending on what kind of ammunition is available and most suitable for enemies at hand, out of comabt handles locks and traps)
Human Rogue 3/Ranger 3/Monk 3/Illusionist 4/Fighter X (duel-weilding self-buffing build, handles scout duties and Wilderness Lore)
Deep Gnome Bard 3 ("Packmule" char, does not advance beyound 3rd level - exists to carry stuff and decrease the partie's average level to get more XP. also uses 1st and 3rd Bardsongs)

Um, that has to be a typo. I expect it should read Aasimar OR dwarf - aasimar are a human subclass and cannot be dwarven in any respects.
I don't exactly know what my "power party" is - it depends on what you consider to be the most powerful. I try for a good mix of melee, arcane and divine magic, and ranged. I've tried to figure out my "best party" for weeks at a time and haven't reached a determination yet.
I've got a couple parties going right now. One has a Pally/Cleric, fighter/Dreadmaster, Morninglord, rogue/fighter/barbarian/wizard, sorceress, and fighter/wizard. However, as strong as this party is (with 4 drow and 2 aasimar), I still find it difficult to give up monks and druids in a power party.
A high-level anything is worth having, and if the character itself is well-planned in terms of stats and skill/feats allocation, it will not be a liability.

When your back is against the wall... the other guy is in a whole lotta trouble.
