No, that's exactly what I meant... Quinine... Our family has a bizarre sense of humor  :D .

And which of the various variants was it? Lariam? (generic name mefloquine) Because that would explain the side effects (some people get delirious/depressive/insomniac)

I agree with Lestat. Are you sure it was quinine?

Lestat you are not alone in having a slow connection tonight. It must drive you daft if it is like this all the time :(

Phew, you got me worried there for a moment. I mean, it's not exactly stuff you play around with. I supported most anti-malaria drugs fairly well. But my sister got slightly delirious of Lariam, and some years ago I had a colleague that acted stoned to his eyeballs after taking in one time the quantity of Lariam he should have taken in two times.
On the other hand, if your mother had added some Dutch garden herbs, it could have been fun. :D

My apologies lestat, I didn't mean to goof around with a material you have had experience with... Hope I didn't offend, I just yanked some vague pharmaceutical reference out of thin air to lace my comment with; didn't mean anything by it :( .

Who do you want to give it to?
I don't remember correctly but about 5 euro a tablet wouldn't be too far from the truth. And in Belgium it's not reimbursed by medical insurance AFAIK, so I doubt it is in other Western countries (since malaria is not endemic).

No apologies needed, I was surprised, not shocked. ;) No harm done. That's why put the reference to Dutch garden herbs, it would be more fun.

I'm bored, amuse me.
Though Tony did amuse me. Lariam and the other anti-malaria drugs are always a hit with the old Africa hands. Oh well.
BTW: there are slight doses of quinine in Tonic (water), and that's why the British drunk it in the colonies, as profylaxis against malaria. But because the taste was not really good they added gin. Hence the gin-tonic.

I know about the quinine in tonic. I'm not certain that's why they put the gin in but you may be right. :D There is a story here that students put lime in lager as a precaution against scurvy. It must work because scurvy should be a big problem in urban Scotland, all other things being equal

I always find Gin and Tonic is the ultimate drink...

*the quinine in the tonic helps to ward off malaria
*the lime provides vitamin C and prevents scurvy...
*the alcohol in the gin helps to kill off infectious parasites

See... you could almost call Gin&Tonic a health elixir :p

lmao! You *were* fast, I edited it almost instantly.
I suppose that firing gin and tonic out of a gun could potentially have some unintended side effects

@Lestat,
nope, no worms! But you know what they say about "an ounce of prevention." I'm simply being er... prudent... and um health conscious :p
