Philosophical games

Planescape: Torment would be a very good example.
I'm just looking for any game (doesn't really have to be an RPG but probably will be) that can stimulate the mind (and not necessarily with a good story). Therefore graphics, sound, gameplay and storyline... all of those don't matter. If anybody knows a few titles I would really appreaciate it if you could post them.

Do you mean games like in the Myst series (e.g. puzzle/logic-based)?

Um... no. More like how humans perceive things (i.e. "Life is an illusion."), good vs. evil, life vs. death, racism, feminism, culture or anything like that. Just about any game that made you think a little about something in life, and not necessarily a game that made you say "Wow, I never expected that twist in the storyline!"

Perhaps you should try out Sanitarium. I'm not sure if that's what you want though.

Meh, that one is too old. Planescape is also old but it had an awesome stoy, and great graphics (for its time) to make up for it... and usually I prefer RPG's over Adventure games; can't rezist the whole character pesonalization thing... but thanks for suggesting it.

I'm not looking for too much philosophy in a game (like in Planescape)... just enough so I can play it for a while. If I wanted something more heavy-duty I'd read a book, but in the case of playing a game I want something more relaxing, but not boring.

I'm just trying out Knight of the Old Republic II and this seems to be a relatively deep game (even though I heard it's a bit unfinished)... but I was wondering if anybody would know of another game like those that I mentioned.

Hmm, you could try the Baldur's Gate series. I doubt you will find much that is better than Planescape in the RPG genre for what your are looking for though.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines might be interesting. Though the aspects of playing an, some would say, inherently evil creature as a Vampire are not that developed, at least less than in the PnP version, it's different from the normal do gooder type of RPG.

Thanks, I haven't played a scary game in a long while.

But Baldur's Gate is a big no-no for me. The graphics aren't that great and I really despise the character creation restrictions (only a Human can be a Monk? And only a Human or Half-Elf can be a Druid! Baaah!) from the Adv. D&D rules; I barely like the new 3.5 D&D rules.

The Fallout series are my best shot, they are also made by BIS (who made plancescape Torment), and its the same team that made Arcanum. Those games are a bit on the adventuring side, but as i see it, it has everything you are looking for. I am a hardcore gamer, and i am also mostly browsing for games that could widen my horizon, and i started this game 5 years ago, and i am not tired of it yet.

Note: When i am saying Fallout series, i mean Fallout 1 and Fallout 2. Steer clear of Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, and the console games, unless you feel like playing them too.

Has anybody played Deus Ex the original and Invisible War? I read some reviews saying they're both thought provoking but lacking in realism and gameplay mechanics... would anybody like to share their opinion on those games?

Hope you guys don't mind me double-posting but I just need your attention one last time.

Has anybody played Syberia I or II? I was looking for a game like Sanitarium but with better graphics and I think I've found it; I read a lot of good things about them and I was just wondering if anybody played 'em... any sort of comments would be very appreciated.
