Paladin Spells

Post by mr_sir »

Do paladins have spells in IWD? I now have a level 6 paladin and i have a spell book but no spells, just my innate abilities. i know paladins get spells around level 4 or 6 or something in other games like IWD.

Yes, indeed they do. Do you have Heart of Winter? If you have HoW, paladin spell access begins at lvl 6; if you have vanilla IWD, access begins at 9. The earlier spell access doesn't actually mean a lot, because once you get the first spell slot, you have to wait a couple levels until you get another.

Never fear, your paladin will be a decent minor caster fairly soon.

With paladins, I tend to load up on Draw Upon Holy Might, Prayer, Defensive Harmony, and the like; good, solid combat spells.

i only have the basic iwd, no expansions, so guess i've got a few more levels to wait lol. its the first time i've used a paladin in iwd and i'm also using one for the first time in iwd2 so got some learning to do. i love paladins in bg2 and nwn though so have a little experience with using them. just could really do with the spells cos my party consists of only 3 characters (a half-elf cleric/mage, a halfling thief and my human paladin) and i'm finding it pretty tough in places.

Well, the few spells the paladin gives you at the middle levels aren't going to help that much. I'd suggest adding another character to bring you up to four - a nice round number.

its getting a lot easier now as my cleric/mage is getting level 4 arcane and divine spells now which is kind of compensating for the lack of characters a bit (cleric for buffing and mage for attack), and my thief is becoming a very good marksman. it was just the black wolf temple that was near impossible at times. i remember it being hard the first time through (which was a long time ago) with a 6 man party as i was still getting to grips with rpgs then but this time through i learnt just how valuable turn undead can be. still a bit disappointed that you have to wait so long for paladin spells without the expansions though. seems ridiculously long waiting for level 9.
