Just finished!
Just finished!
I finished my first full games last night, and I gotta say I was a little underwhelmed.
It was far too easy, IMO.
Once my characters got to a high enough level (Ch 6 and 7 particularly), the game became pretty much of a cakewalk. This was with a perty of 4 to boot. I'm a little concerned that the expansion might be the same.

Good point - this board certainly makes it easier - but I don't think the game was too easy in total. Just the final chapters due to the power of high level characters and the horrendous amount of stuff you can collect.
For instance, in my final battle, I used a simulcrum, summoned a couple of efreets, Nishru, a stalker and gated in a caco-demon for good measure. It was over in minutes.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the game immensly, but I found the BG1 finale a LOT harder.
Next time, maybe I'll go without a mage.

Well I had it the oppersite way - but then again - I useally play more fighter except for my PC wich useally is fighter/mage or fighter/cleirc.
In BG1 - with plenty of figthers (Khalid, Ajantis, Minsc) made it more easy to take down a fighter(Saverok)
With a majority of fighters facing Irenicus - I lost servaral times at my first go.
So again - I felt that Sarevok was much easier than Irenicus

They were easy opponents. I killed them in my first approach :
Sarevok
- We produce 40 skeletons (my char- pure cleric), 20 other monsters(Dynaheir,Jaheira, my char) to create the crowd and this fool cannot even touch my party, then we could use : magic missiles(Dynaheir), some good arrows (Minsc, Coran), this throwing axe that returns to hand (I don't remember the name) (Kagain) and after several minutes lovely "brother" is death.
Irenicus(in hell)
- We cast 3 aerial servants, 2 fire elementals to deal with demons(My char - F/M/C, Jaheira, Aerie). Then we cast all defensive spells starting from contingency(Me, Jaheira, Imoen, Aerie, Minsc). When Irenicus had finishe his stupid speech I divided my party into 3 groups. Then the greatest group of demons "met" my pets (in southern part of hell) and we could kill them quickly without Irenicus's "assistance". The rest is easy - fighters go to Irenicus, mages, priests cast all deadly things on him (secret word, lower resistances, etc.). He was eliminated in 10 minutes.
But I agree that Sarevok was much easier than Irenicus.

You can always make the game harder. Set it for the worst difficulty level. Choose a party that lacks some melee punch or magic power. Go for party members that are late bloomers, or multi-classed, and take longer to grow. Leave out some vital link in your party, like a cleric/druid, or a thief.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
so how easy is saravoc then??
i never played bg1 (i think i will though)
but i had no problems with irenicus i went unprepared and i still managed to keep most of my party members a live.
second time i tried i went prepared and it was to easy!
my char a lvl 19 fighter equiped with the blackrazor and daystar killed the 4 demons each in 2/3 strikes and when i fought against irenicus all my mages cost thiings like warding whip, breach and lower resistens, while my char and minsc were smaching the hack out of him

and he died very fast.

Yes...Irenicus is a wimp at the end of the game. Why? who know...they could easily have made him immune to weapons or immune to magic or anything else they would have made that battle terribly difficult but they did not...they probably didn't put too much thought into this battle. Imagine if he had Kangaxx's immunities and resistance to weapons and could not be hit by spells? now that would be an interesting final battle
I was just thinking that a "mano-a-mano" battle would've been a great ending... just Irenicus and your PC! Maybe set it up in a maze or something to allow for tactics suited to all classes.

I believe something is missing here. The final battle in the temple in BG1 was a very tricky one.Sarevok was not alone. And his companions were powerful for your lvl 7 party (only thieves could be lvl 8,the xp cap in BG1 was 89,000 xp if i remember correct).
There were also many traps and if you came close to the walls there was possibility to summon invisible stalkers. You need good preparation, take out his companions one by one and leave Sarevok for the end.And from my experience no lvl 7 fighter could last more than 4-5 hits in melee combat with him.
Irenicus is much easier. You can go in the battle with little preparations and still win, because the battle is more predictable

In my strategy with Sarevok mages always teleport near my party - then they can be easily held (hold person, confusion) and killed by fighters. In the same time Sarevok, Tazok, etc. is held by skeletons&animals barrier. What is more sarevok's servants could be affected by his own traps.

That seems to point up a significant difference between Europeans and Americans. A European says: "I can't understand this, what's wrong with me?" An American says: "I can't understand this, what's wrong with him?"
I reckon that Stonehege was build by the contemporary equivalent of Microsoft, whereas Avebury was definitely an Apple circle.

I suppose that we will have to eliminate these guys in robes from the final movie.
