If you are using Nvidia Graphic Card and having Subtitles problem or texts not shown problem, the following steps and configs is the method i use to fix the problem (at least in my case).
OK, I'm using the latest Nvidia G-Force drivers, so driver version shall not be a problem. First, go to Advace-Troubleshoot from your display properties to off advaced cusor and drawing acceleration (slide 2 bar to the left) and apply the new setting. Using the default D3D option shall be OK. Enter the game video properties, off all anti-aliasing and set refresh rate to 85Hz and apply. Check all your menu to see any missing texts, if there is then here is the important trick to remove it: go to video properties again and if your vertical sync is 'on', then set it to off and apply, now check for any more missing texts (you shall notice it getting better now); if there are still missing texts, go to video properties and 'on' vertical sync again and apply, and check for mssing text. Keep repeating on and off vertical sync option and apply it, you shall evenuatly get no missing text on all your menus, then all subtitles shall now display with no problem.
Important: if minimise your game or sometime quit and enter the game, the problem should appear again; just repeat the above trick to fix the problem again.
Hope this would help some of those can't play this great game due to this bugs.

Just wanted to come back and say thanks for this info. I was getting the flickery and missing text, and your suggestions fixed it.
Of course, by now I've played this game enough on the XBox that I could probably recite most of the dialogue anyway, but your post made my PC Fable playing more enjoyable.
