Can you maintain the thief stronghold?

Just a simple question, when you leave Athkatla in chapter 4 I know you don't come back for a while. Will I still have my thief stronghold as I have left the island and I'm still getting the messages that my thieves have returned. But if I'm on another island I won't be able to get back to pay my dues to Renal. So won't I lose my guild as I won't pay him in time.

Don't worry...Time freezes in the city till you get back.

this may be a bug, but when i let the guild die from not paying it, i still got money from thieves, about 1500 every 5 days.

As weasel mentioned time does indeed freeze when you go to spell hold also i thought it might be helpfull for you to know that when you do lose the strong hold you can buy it back from Renal Bloodscalp for 4000 gold peanuts to a mighty adventurer
