Hostile Madulf (Spoilers)

Post by Aramant »

In the Umar Hills, I spoke to Madulf, carried his message to the Mayor, and went off to do the Temple Ruins quest. I slept a couple of times in the interim.

Upon returning to Imnesvale, Madulf's minotaur goes hostile and attacks the ogre, who then goes hostile and attacks Madulf, who goes hostile and is then attacked by the gnoll and the orc, who also go hostile.

I tried rushing to the Mayor to hopefully force the quest progression to keep Madulf peaceful, but without success. He does tell me that he spoke to Madulf, however. I also tried rushing to Madulf to get him to talk to me before his minions sacked him, but he "appears to be busy". I've also tried rushing in and blitzing the minotaur before he can cause havoc, but that makes the lot of them go hostile.

I've tried resting again, reloading my saved game, and re-opening the game entirely in hopes of refreshing the coding for whatever this problem might be, but to no avail. I'd like to not have to kill Madulf, as I'm playing a ranger and I understand he's involved in the stronghold quests.

Is there any way to fix this, CLUA or otherwise, and is there any known cause for it? Did I do something wrong with the quest? Any help would be appreciated.

An update on the situation:

Randomly, I managed to get in to talk to Madulf before he went hostile, and I got the shield from him. However, when attempting to complete the orog quest, he is hostile when I enter the cave. I did not attack him at all, nor was he accidentally hit by a spell at any time whatsoever. I think my only recourse is to CLUA his peaceful version into the cave. Does anyone know the coding for this? Specifically with any counters or variables set to the orog quest, if that's a factor.

Hmmm..I tried googling it, and it led me here. :)

So I believe Madulf's code is: CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("uhogre01")

Hope that works.

I used the Create Creature coding for Madulf, and that worked. I had a blue and a red Madulf in the cave with me, spoke to the blue one, and the red one left. Before he exited the cave, the blue Madulf attacked him. I found that kind of funny.

If anyone else has had a similar problem to this, be aware that killing the hostile Madulf results in a reputation penalty of two points, and the experience reward and loot is hardly worth it.

Thank you for the linked information, Fenix.

And if I remember correctly, it also results in the loss of the Ranger's stronghold, because I think he is needed for one of the quests.
In memorian: Fiona; Ravager; Lestat; Phreddie; and all of those from the 1500 incident. Lest we forget.

The situation I found myself in was during that quest, but yes, I imagine killing him before that quest was given would prove problematic.

Hmm I've wondered what would happen if I killed them..does the conversation with Lloyd asking you to be protector just not occur? Or do they say "nah, we don't want you 'cause you killed an ogre that we wanted you to kill in the first place..bastard"?
