I DID IT!!!! I decided to finish the rest of the level before leaving. So I finished the quests and got all 3 keys. I opened the first key and a Lich popped out and Imprisoned me almost before I had a chance to attack him. After reloading, I simulcarum'd and cast Prot. from Magic and took out the Lich. I then turned the 2nd key and took all these guys out pretty easily. Now I had 4 Greater Whirlwinds left so I saved and turned the 3rd key. I rushed over and took out the dual-wielding fighter with 2 GW's, then moved over and took out the Huntress with my last two GW's. I was drained a few levels from the succubus. I ran away behind the doors at the bottom of the screen and closed the door. I cast Restoration and rested. This is cheesy, but I don't think I could do it any other way. I opened the door and ran out around all the others that were waiting for me. I found the Hive Mother was all alone in the middle so I rushed up and took it out with 2 GW's. I then took out the cleric with 2 more GW's. Now I was drained 8 levels and was planning on running and resting again but I was hemmed in by all the skeletons and the succubus and Marilith. So I GW'd again and started whacking took out the succubus. Her Prot. from Magic Weapons had run out. I then took out the Marilith too and cleaned up the skeletons. I was finished!!!! After Restoring and resting again, I went down to the Demogorgon. I tried attacking once and was creamed in seconds so I didn't even try again. I just left and sealed him in with the scroll. Back to Athkalta to take out Bohdi. The thing that's really tough about a Beastmaster is that there is NOTHING that provides Negative Plane Protection. After killing Bohdi, I was down to Level 9. She had drained 25 Levels from me!!!! I Restored, rested and headed back to the elves. Suldanesselar was not much problem. The dragon was tougher than I expected because it required +4 weapons to hit. It took a while to get thru his Stoneskins. I went and took out Irenicus easily. With the Cloak of Mirroring, he barely injured me at all. Now onto TOB. Took at the first woman no problem. Finished Saradush. Took out the Fire Giants and got the heart. I have AC -15 and the Giants hit me almost every time. This was a tough dungeon and I had to rest a couple of times. I took out the Witch and now it's on to the Siege Camp. More later.

As Keldorn would say
"you are truly a force of great righteousness"
I think I speak for us all when I say WAY TO GO YOU RULE!

The beast master is one of the weakest kits but you are doing an amazing job. If I were you, Id have asked Sabre to make me some good god-worthy toys. Since your in TOB, why dont you dual wield crom and runehammer now? Or can you even? I suggest this becuase rune hammer has negative plane protection. I would have asked sabre to make an upgrade for my clubs and stuff.
Once again Hurray, three chears for the brave beastmaster Hip hip, hurray, !
The waves came crashing in like blindness.
So I just stood and listened.

Thank you. I appreciate the comment. I can't use Warhammers. The only melee weapons I can use are Clubs and Staffs.

Wow.. that's amazing. Not bad soloing with a tought kit.. hmmz.. but yeah, if you were to verse the tougher fighters (and esp mages!!! Think: Mellisan).. you might find it "tougher". hehe.. just turn the difficulty level to Easy then. :)

But overall, I thought that ToB WAS easy.. I mean, easier than SoA, IMO.. but anywayz.. Melissan might be tough. My advice to tackle her: attack her STRAIGHT on and ASAP! Drink a potion of Speed and charge after her before she summons her Maerilith and what-nots.

WOW!! I flew thru TOB. I took out everything up to Melissan with only a couple reloads. I had Draconis down to Near Death, but he cast Greater Malaison on me and I failed a save against dragon fear. While I was panicked, he killed me. One funny thing that happened in this dungeon. I was fighting some of those eye things right near where that party was petrified. I was using the Club of Detonation and a fireball went off during the fight and all the statue burst apart. I couldn't save the poor guys. I finished off Abagizal no problem. Sendai was surprisingly easy. With only 1 player, you can go on one side and not see the "active" statue and drink healing potions and fight the drow without having to fight her. I took her out easily this way. Now on to Balthazar. I didn't do any of the quests in Amkethran so I just fought all the Monks at the doorway and got the key. Went inside and took out Balthazar with 2 Greater Whirlwinds. I took almost no damage. Back to the pocket plane and did the Cyric test. It was a little tough because the guys kept going invisible. I took alot of damage but won eventually. Now I rested and went on to Ravager. I simulacrum'd and went in. I fought but he kept knocking me unconcious. I had him at Near Death too when I was knocked out right as I tried to use the Rod of Ressurection to heal me. After reloading, I was able to take him out. Now onto Melissan. I'm not sure I can do this. It seems you need a +6 weapon to hit her. I keep getting "Weapon Ineffective" when I use the +5 Club of Detonation. I'm not sure why this is. I was lucky with the first one because I disrupted her stoneskin spell and took her out quickly. I can't do this with the 2nd one because she knocks me back immediately. I tried a couple of times to take her out but so far not sucessfully. I'm giving up for tonight.

Well, it's over. I'm giving up. I've tried defeating Melissan quite a few times and it's not going to happen. A Beastmaster is just not strong enough(as least not with me playing it :-) . The biggest problem is Stoneskin. I stand there and hit her forever, but I don't get through the Stoneskin. I have no way of dispelling it either. After she casts Greater Malaison a couple of times, I fail a saving throw and I'm toast. I'd have to get VERY lucky to win this battle. I took her out the first time, but that's as far as I can go. It was a good run though and I made it ALOT farther than I thought I would.

Sniff... How sad. :(

Can't you Pocket Plane, rest & save in between the battles? That should make it a lot easier.

NO!! The pocket plane is gone. There's no resting for this fight. If I could somehow rest between battles, I could win. However, I can't rest so I can't win.

This is too bad. I wonder if a solo BM CAN beat Mellisan? I have a few small ideas --

1) Use a scroll of Protection from Magic not on yourself, BUT ON MELLISAN. If this works, and I think you can apply this scroll to "enemies", then you are golden. She should not be able to put up a bunch of stoneskins. Use simmy to do this right after you port in.

2) If this does not work, use upgraded Flail of Ages. Mellisan CAN be slowed, and she IS hurt by poison damage right through stonekin. It's slow going but it does damage her when nothing else will do.

3) Use that sword that when it hits does L-Minor-Drain upon hit (no save). This heals you and hurts her. That way if you greater whirlwind, you can get 10-60 hp's back in one round...

Good luck!

BeastMaster's can read Protec. from Magic, by the way, if their intelligence is above 12 or 13 or something like that.

I can't use the Flail of Ages, I can't use the sword. I have 3 weapons that I can use on her. The Club of Detonation, the Blackwood club, and the Staff of the Ram. I tried Blackwood and the acid DOESN'T affect her. She seems immune. I've tried the Club of Detonation and the fire DOESN'T affect her. I tried using Prot. from Magic on me but I haven't tried it on her. I'll have to check that out. Unfortunately I only have 1 Prot. From Magic scroll left. I tried the Prot. from Magic on her and she still casts all her spells, including Stoneskin. I'm pretty sure that I can't finish.

I think Melissan forces her spells... Did anyone ever manage to interrupt her spellcasting?

Mellisan is NOT immune to poisen environmental damage; this I discovered when using the flail of ages, which, I am sorry to say, I was too stupid to remember that BeastMaster's can't use.

I don't have any other ideas right now... I guess this proves one thing; beastmaster's are the weakest class without doubt. I think any other class can beat mellisan if correctly equipped... oh well!

GOOD try!

Hmm...you've got ring of ram? It's a nice way to earn more time. Does the skill Smite work on her? The second Melissan is the hardest, I've gotta admit. You have any summons? Like the staff of Air, staff of Fire, Efreeti bottle, Moondog figurine, Kitthix, Iron Horn of Valhalla? They are all nice because they make at least good decoys. Moondog howl is amazing against her summons, if I recall correct...it can't be over now, you've come so far!
Centuries ago in England........It was an era of chivalry and magic. The evil Prince John unleashed an iron fist of tyranny upon the people. They called out for a champion.........one man answered that call. His name, was Robin Hood. Fearless in his quest for justice Robin Hood challenged the power of the high warlords. While protecting the helpless and the poor. Willing to face death for what he believed, along with the beautiful, lady warrior, Jaheira, the mighty Minsc, and the wise Keldorn. Robin Hood forged a legend that lives on today in............

Well, I summoned the Warrior, Spider and Moondog and they lasted about 1 second until Melissan cast Death Spell. I actually got pretty lucky and she only summoned Bone Fiends which can't hurt me because they're not magic weapons. This way it was basically me against Melissan. I stood toe to toe with her for quite a while. She does TONS of damage. I used 12 charges off the Rod of Resurrection to heal myself and had her down to Badly Injured. She then cast Heal on herself and went back to Uninjured. This time I'm giving up for good. I can't figure out a way to beat her. I'll save the game in another location so I can go back to it another time, but I've resigned myself to the fact that I can't beat her. Even if by some miracle I took this one out, there's still 2 more after this. Without being able to rest, it's not going to happen. Oh, I had some Arrows of Biting which do Poison damage, however when I shot at her, it's not considered +3 so it doesn't affect her. I'm officially done with this character unless someone comes up with an idea that I haven't thought of. It was a good ride, but he just doesn't have enough options to defeat Melissan.
