Wild Mage: can they be dangerous to the party?

Post by krunchyfrogg »

I was thinking of playing again, this time with a wild mage (never really tried one). Can the surges be dangerous to the party, or are they just "flavor"?

Very rarely, in that, the worst that can happen is a slow spell on one of your team mates.

One thing however to watch out for is the one that makes you lose 80% of your gold, that's a dangerous one.
In memorian: Fiona; Ravager; Lestat; Phreddie; and all of those from the 1500 incident. Lest we forget.

o yea

I killed my own party with double level death spells numerous times i think.

Once i had a really crazy wild surge that cleared the screen of everything (i tried to cast abi dhalzims horrid wilting with n's reckless dweomer). Wild surge: roll four more, and it all went downhill from there i think i had above ten wild surges with that one spell (i kept getting wild surge roll two/four more). The enemy and my party both changed sex, polymorphed, confused and all sorts of nasty things happened like symbol death smack on the head of aerie. I think only keldorn survived.

But if you dont try to cast level 9 spells when the best you can learn is level 5 i dont think there will be such problems.

I once cast a fireball in the middle of my party. That literary wasn't cool.
