Equip Stakes - help!

Post by cbem9991 »

I'm having difficulty equipping stakes (which is making it difficult for me to kill basic vampires). How/ where do I equip them? This is driving me nutty!

You don't actually equip the stakes, it confused me a bit at first too.

You treat a vampire like a normal enemy, attack, use spells (run away :p ) and eventually kill it. Once they are dead, they go into gaesous for and disappear.

For most of the vampires, that is it. However, there are a few that need to be staked. To do this, find out where the gas goes, and when you reach the coffin, provided you have a cross, clicking on the coffin will allow you to stab it.

Below are the list of stabbings :( spoiler)
Three in the vampire lair where Bodhi is (Chapter 3)
One in Spellhold (Chapter 4)
Again in Bodhi's lair (Chapter 6)
In memorian: Fiona; Ravager; Lestat; Phreddie; and all of those from the 1500 incident. Lest we forget.

(SLIGHT SPOILER)

Thanks for the assistance! :)

Unfortunately this now means that I'm just terrible at killing things :(
I'm having some difficulty killing the vampire girl/ 2 other vampires that appear when I'm outside about to return the bird to Edwin. If I use spells on them the cowled wixards arrive and also start attacking me! Do you have any tips about the best way to kill them without spells? It's really getting to me.

I've started level 3 but am finishing off all the level 2 quests I never got to (most of them).

Try using potions and wands until you get the license to practice magic.

Spoiler - highlight to read.

Those vampires you talk about appear randomly during the night - you can avoid them by only walking around the streets of Athkatla during the day..until you toughen up enough to take them on.

Yes, I suggest avoiding them where possible until you are stronger. And try to get a license, it makes it much easier.

Also remember that Vampires require +2 weapons (or ammo, in the case of ammo-using ranged weapons) to hit.

The safest way to deal with the random, outdoor Vamps in the city to is, as others have said, to stay off the streets at night.

Also, if you're forced to fight them, and if you have a cleric in your party, use his 'turn dead' ability - the skull shaped button activates that.

Thanks for your help.

I actually did not know that you require +2 weapons to fight vampires.

I have Aerie as my cleric but I'm not too sure about her turn undead capacity. I'll give it a try.

Heh....I never can get my turn undead to work. Nothing happens. Anomen is, like, 12th level now and still can't turn vampires. I just throw a Negative Plane spell thingy on Minsc and let him have at it with Chaos Blade or Liracor (Minsc's species enemy is vampires...). Put him in a berserk state first of course and make him drink a potion of speed. My PC is also an Undead Hunter so we kick lots of vampire butt.
As for the magic liscense...that is the first thing I save up to buy. It is a real pain in the arse dodging the Cowled Wizards. Magic liscense and the glasses of Identification.
