After you finish the Asylum, you'll eb approached by Saemon. He offers to take you with him on his boat. Do so. If you take the portal in the Asylum, you'll go directly to the Underdark.

dont take the portal, it might be faster but you miss some great treasure and a hell of a lot of XP

Single best item in the game...
the cloak of cheating!!!

If you have tob installed check out sabre's site for info on restoring the bounce effect.

I love that cloak, better than any item except robe of vecna.

I always have cloaked main char and aerie with shild of cheating up at the front whenever I face beholders. and I've yest to try this, but have been assured this works,

cast lightning bolt at other char with cloak of reflection.

bounces back and your char bounces it, and you walk up side by side next to a monster and whatch it crisp.

also you get wave halberd blade and if your char is a monk, the gloves of crushing.

And don't forget the specator beholder, very funny.
