What character class stinks?

Post by fable »

That's right. I'm overloaded on new posts asking "What's the best character class?" every six hours. After all, there isn't a single best class, just a variety of good ones. (If there'd been only one or two, you can bet Bioware would have offered 'em as the only options.)

So, for a change, I thought I'd ask a different question: What character class stinks? Which one do you positively hate, with a loathing normally reserved for telemarketers that call when you're making out with your Significant Other?
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

I can say that I HATE wizard Slayers.....
No using health potions.......... can't use magic items (aside from armour and weapons)

Another kit class that disagrees with me is the archer, while it's far better than a wizard slayer, I find it's damage to be to low and after 2 shots i have to retreat so the enemy can't hit me with a large axe.

Those 2 pet hates out of the way i find that the rest of the classes and kits to be fun.

Not that I hate them, I simply don't understand why they exist.
Totemic Druid- They can use leadder armor but cannot use the white dragon scale, and the shapeshifter that cannot use any armor can use the white dragon scale, thats an outrage, the bioware programers were drunk.

Beastmaster-why???

Wildmages-why???

Archer- After BGI they suck!!!Why???

I would say beast master is pretty weak compared to the other classes i also think that a stand alone claric as the progonostist or what not isnt very good as with ANY druid class i think we all forgot how much they suck and WHY OH WHY do people pick barbarian when you can use a berserker which is much better and offers the same chiz

well, barbarians develop magic and physical damage resistances...
wizard slayers can use healing potions, but their magic resistance just develops too slowly to be of much use.
my vote goes to beastmaster
I would be a serial killer if i didn't have such a strong distaste for manual labor

Which character class stinks? The one played by a Half-Orc, of course. :D ;) Seriously though, I think the Beastmaster kinda sucks because of the weapon restriction, as well as the Totemic Druid for its rather lackluster abilites. The Wizard Slayer has some cool abilities but I find the restrictions to be too much. I believe the Enchanter misses out on Magic Missile and Chromatic Orb, while the Transmuter misses out on all those great Abjuration spells (Imprisonment, Time Stop, Spellstrike, etc). So those would be the two worst mage kits. Those are the only ones that are truely terrible that I can think of for now...

Bards are the best... i play a skald and they are better than any other class... They are good at shooting.. (gesen bow) and the fact that he can identify ANY item makes them good money savers... THE BARD SONG are soooo good if you play skald... they give awsome bonuses...

As for the Totemic (?) druid... they are good... the spirit animal is good and druids are much better than Clerics for the have awsome summoning abilitys....

The worst class??? Barbarian... a fighter who can't wear plate or full plate??? why not berzaker who has all the benefits and can wear plate and full plate...
Donny! You are OUT of your element!

Well here is an opinion from an educated and openminded person if I do say so myself. Panda I wish you good luck in your life of loneliness, moron.

Recently I've developed a distaste for clerics. I don't know why, but the plate-mail wearing, mace wielding old preacher doesn't sound very "epic" to me. I figure, if I want healing, I got Planetars and potions.

Single classed clerics sucks big time! However my opinion may be affected by my hate of ANOMEN!

As for the archers... ewwww what happened after BG1??! I am very very disappointed of the "Wild mage" too but thats a whole other chapter :D

Well... Clerics do have uses besides healing. If you bother to give them a few select spells in between all those Cure X spells, they can actually be quite effective in the front line. Plus they can dish out damage with Holy Smite and Flame Strike, and summon some nasty critters.

And Anomen is not too shabby. Apart from his lousy Dex, he's quite the power gamer's character. He has an extra half attack and can get Grand Mastery. If you put up with him until his test, he becomes much more bearable (fail or pass).

I don't understand all of you, Wild mage haters.
IMO, the wild mage is the best of mages; you are never sure if the spell will work and if you won't be harmed. Also there is so many interresting effects...

I don't think any class 'stinks'...they are can be useful.

Having said that here is my least of the WEAKEST classes/kits IMO (in no particular order):

Wizard Slayer (You can't use potions...a lifesaving item...for what? Lousy MR?)

Beastmaster (Animal abilities are simply not that useful in the game)

Barbarian (be a Bezerker if you are interested in this)

Any Druid (other than their neat spells which can easily be duplicated by a ranger/cleric, they get lousy armor, poor weapons, and absolutely *hideous* XP table, and just to make up for all of these drawbacks, they can shapeshift into forms weaker than they are)

SINGLE CLASSED Thieves (Imoen or Jan is all the thief you ever need....or want)

Well , i can't say i hate Wild mage .. On the contrary i have a fond of all mage classes . But , Wild mage seems clumsy to me . I mean think of it for once .. You are a bhaalspwawn, your debt is to clear the out the doubts about you regarding the blood in your veins ..You are playıng a hero and most of people's lives depend on your actions.. You cast something , let's say Abi Dalzim's Horrid Wilting and you kill your party .. When i played a Wild mage i almost hear Korgan saying "Do what ever ye do .. Just don't turn me chicken or something .."

It can be fun when there is a clumsy mage in your party like Fizban if you know what i mean but i can't bear playing a wild mage ..

If you have ToB, Wizard Slayers can use healing potions.

Wizard Slayers can also be great if you dual to a thief and hit use any item.
