First: Make sure you meet all the minimum requirements.
Actually, that's an excellent idea, CaptRory. I once installed a Borland Turbo C++ compiler on an 8086. It ran. It took 35 minutes to load and responded to keystrokes at 5 second intervals, but it ran. It would be reasonable to assume that an under-powered PC would be a valid reason for this problem, too.
well, i do meet the minimum requirements... as i mentioned my whole screen is black but i can go into the options or the save/load screen without any lag or something...
and i already patched it to version 1.2
The lead-in stuff is always slam-dunk. It's built to show up fast and unload quick - minimal resource usage. The game itself is what takes time.
I can't say off the top of my head what the problem is, but I would suggest a test. Start the game, let it start loading, and wait. Give it about an hour. If, after that time, the game loads successfully, then you don't have enough processor or memory (memory being the better bet). The time is probably going into paging memory off to the file system. If it doesn't load in that time, then you have some kind of bug, and I would suggest uninstalling the game and re-installing it.
You have to understand the "Minimum Requirements" thing. That's the absolute minimum that the game can run in at all. To get it to perform acceptably, you typically need more. When I bought VTMB, I had 768 Mb of memory, which is far in excess of "Minimum Requirements". I had to upgrade to 1.25 Gb to get reasonably performance, but I have an old CPU - 1.5 GHz.
The original "Minimum Requirements" for Windows '95 was 16 Mb. That's what it took to load the operating system alone. To actually run anything took more.
