The Old Way For Posts

Post by Hill-Shatar »

Today I finished typing a 10,000 word response to a thread in SYM, only to accidentally click on a link and lose it all.

I remember that at one point in time, we had the ability to go back and find our message still there. However, now GameBanshee appears to clean it out. Whether or not my computer itself does this, I have no idea, but would it be possible at one point or another to bring this ability back?

Thanks for your time.

I just tested it and I seem to keep my text as I navigate to another place *as long* as you use the "back button" to navigate back.

It is browser caching. If the server should prevent this it would mean that it should store all text written even what isn't submitted, which as you'd expect would quickly become a problem.

I noticed that afterwards. However, my computer did this right until the upgrade, which I found strange. I never thought that anything along the lines of updating a site could cause my own computer to stop caching my writing.

I guess I'll just have to check my settings, although they appear to be the same as before, again, and hope that I find something different.

My writings also stay when I refresh a post when my connection starts to lag out and I need to give it a quick fix before I finish typing, and using the back button will bring it back.

And Hill, once you find the probelm, we are eagerly awaiting your post.

I heard that this happened to DW once or twice as well. Most likely it has something to do with the large amount of anti-virus/spyware/spam software on our computers.

Oh well... guess the settings didn't like the change to GameBanshee, whatever caused them to act this way.

I usually do so... but I really didn't expect to write as much as I did. :(

I think I have only had that happens once or twice here, and that was from how FF reacts to me clicking on the wrong drop down menu and quickly trying to switch to another one. That's from the browser crashing. I do not recall ever just losing my post here that way. It saves them, here at least. On HoL, I need to make sure I save anything large, there is no way to just go back and retain what you had before. I lost 3 hours worth of work last week there because I forgot it works differently than this site.
